yeah the pricing on the haymarket event is ridiculous. some good stuff on the taplist, but there's nothing that is going to entice me to pay that much.

local option's ccbw events are usually great tapwise but as of late they've been total shitshows, so i avoid them (and hope that something good is left over the next day).

also on bomber chat, i've nearly (but not completely) stopped buying bombers of anything local but special releases or stuff that i know will be absolutely worth it (i.e. straight jacket, galaxy hero, etc.). really sick of seeing 600 pipeworks releases taking up shelf space.

The Haymarket Mini-FOBAB sounds like a good time.......except that it's $55 per ticket!
Worries me what this year's FOBAB tickets will cost with the change of venue.

Oh get the lube ready, they arent planning on being gentle. Quality has diminished greatly at FOBAB too, cant wait to see what turd sandwiches local breweries bring this year.

Speaking of cans vs. bombers, looks like the FFF/Surly Blakkr cans are hitting distro here after all...just got a tweet from a shop saying they got them in. No price though.

Of course, right after I stock up on bombers, which I never ******* do.

*********.

also, re: craft beer week, the schedule on the actual ccbw site (once you filter out the daily events) still looks mostly terrible. i remember a couple years ago going to revolution and drinking all sorts of amazing BA firestone walker stuff, and then hearing a tip from someone there that there was a bizarre lagunitas beer (i think they labeled it as a 'gueuze'?) at the map room, so, already drunk, i hopped on my bike and went over for a pour, and it was delicious.

i like the idea of craft beer week, i really do. but it seems like maybe a handful of the participants feel like showcasing something that they don't already do, at least not on the official site.

'hey, come get a flight of all the goose island sour sisters!' oh, you mean the same beers that have been turding up shelves for months that are (nearly) universally regarded as not worth their cost?

'boston beer co tap takeover!' do they have *any* draft only/special limited release type beer (besides utopias which doesn't really count as a beer)?

'madame rose tapping!' is this what passes for a ccbw event?

about the only good offerings i'm seeing are the lagunitas circus (debateable due to price albeit the ticket includes four beers), haymarket's mini-fobab (were it not overpriced), *possibly* the goose island thing (again, another ticketed event and not guaranteed to not be a shitshow like other recent goose fulton events), the revolution cased meat party (okay, can't fade this one because rev usually does a quality event), the transient/destihl event, the middlebrow man-b-que homebrew competition (which i will sadly be out of town for and thus unable to participate) and a couple of the random tappings done by jerry's and smallbar division. oh, and beer under glass, which i got shut out of yet again this year.

instead, i'd keep an eye out for events that aren't on the site. i imagine local option and map room are going to do something as they have done so in the past. beer temple is definitely doing an event on the 21st (albeit details have not been published). you'll probably see other events pop up randomly under the radar.

The problem with a Chicago Craft Beer Week is that the Chicago beer scene is ******* insane in terms of dedication.

It would take true skill or a fuckton of money to pull off something that would impress the masses at a fair price without having the entire horde descending upon your location.

Implying CCBW was ever good.

Its a week to go out and get drunk at possibly unfamiliar neighborhood beer bars. Sure the ticketed events are sort of a buzz kill but from my experience you're not missing much if you avoid them.

I remember the first year being pretty solid in terms of oddball tappings and what not. This just seems so "try these beers you can get any time of year here", we need some more self-promotion! Let me try **** that barely comes here from interesting brewers. ****, Madison Beer Week smokes CCBW.

Eh, I guess I'm not as spoiled out here in suburbia where there are rarely big time tappings and they hold back kegs for CCBW.

Come to the burbs for Maple Tree Inn's event that I'm sure will be awesome.
Tribes in Tinley will probably tap something awesome.
Delilah's per the usual.
GI's warehouse event
Horse Thief Hollow's BA beers
Jerry's sandwiches has 3 good events
Beer Temple's unannounced event
Transient & Destihl at River town

Not too shabby.

I think I am going to heads out to that horse thief release

Attention FIBs: Toronto's crackhead mayor Rob Ford is apparently on his way to Chicago for a stint in "rehab".

You will likely see him plastered at various Chicagoland bars, so try your best to get a selfie with him. There's a good possibility he will get confused at some point and start ordering "Dust".

Wish I had more time/energy to comment but I agree many, many 100% that CCBW is pfffffttt at this point (though the closing party might be worthwhile - I heard it was decent last year, except for the person that got accosted by Goose Island because he complained about their anniversary party). And bombers... ditto, blah blah blah.

But speaking of Revolution, upcoming releases -- really hoping Dos Osos gets bottled:
5/1 - Rosa Hibiscus Ale

5/7 - PITN - an IPA dry-hopped with German Hull Melon & Hallertau Blanc varieties.

5-14 - IL Golden Ale - an ale brewed with 100% pilsner malt and 100% Citra hops, and Dos Osos, our collab IPA with Firestone Walker.

5/21 - District North Line Lager, a hoppy lager named after the rail line that runs along the west side of Logan Square.

5/28 - Ideology ESB, a British-inspired extra special bitter was named after the Billy Bragg song.

Rehab in Chicago. Shows how series he is about the program.

Granted, it’s really hard to get excited about tapings you could pick up on a daily bases. Then again is Chicago Craft beer week about landing that whale or even trying out of distro stuff? I guess the whole point of it is to promote and bring in some extra cash for Chicago land brewers, bars and shops that put out the good stuff 24/7….right?

I don’t know about you guys but paddling your way from crowded bar to crowded bar in a sea of thick-framed 'hipster' eyewear is not a good time in my book. I’ll be at the places like WLV, that taps free BA Sump just because they feel like it or Beer temple that gives out great beer like dinner mints. Bars like Fischman's that taps 12 oz pours of 120 min for 10 bucks and Logan Square Small Bar that throw things like Darkness and Prairie bomb on tap for a fair price without twitting it like a crazed Justin Bieber fan.

In addition these places bring in brewers willing to tell their stores, and we gather around them making them feel like the pretty girl at prom. Which in turn, I like to think that makes them feel like they are fighting the good fight.

I wish Hallmark made a card for thank you for the great beer and being true to the craft. Then again Craft beer week sounds like a holiday made up by Hallmark. Guess I’ll just make a card out of bottle caps and give that to the above mentioned places. Guess I’m kind of ranting here but why does CCBW need to be about drinking as much over hyped beer as possible in a week time period. It should be about saying thanks to the people in Chicago that help the scene from the owner to the stock boy. It wasn’t that long ago when beer almost became a commodity and an even shorter time period when IL didn’t have a leg to stand on in the craft beer world.

I wish they would say thanks by tapping as much over hyped beer as possible.

I just hope the have a Real Ale/Surly/Three Floyds Blakkr tap take over.

I would love to try Three Floyds/Real Ale/Surly Blakkr, Real Ale/Surly/Three Floyds Blakkr and Surly/Three Floyds/Real Ale Blakkr side by side.

Then throw a bottle share with Three Floyds/Real Ale/Surly Blakkr bombers, Real Ale/Surly/Three Floyds Blakkr 12 oz cans and Surly/Three Floyds/Real Ale Blakkr 16 oz cans.

The only hard part is trying to tick it on untapped, so people know I'm hard core.

So what is every other day of the year then? If every day is like Chicago Beer Week with bars being a little less crowded, what the **** are we even "celebrating" by this totally "special" week? Just seems like a money grab by a decent amount of places sadly.

According to FB, Pipeworks just bottled Citra. If folks are pissed about the price of Galactic Double Daisy, I'm guessing this one will dump gas on that fire. You know it'll be more than $10.

Yeah, that'll be what, $12? Pass. I see they said they're going to make sours. Since their timeframe estimates are almost always way off, you could probably expect those in about 10 years.

On one hand you have to respect that Pipeworks busts out new beers close to every week.

On the other hand wish they would just bottle 6 packs of there top brews already. I know that's easier said then done, but I really hope they are working on it now with their new pad. Pipeworks use to fly off the shelves, now it's just taking up space.

They are no longer the new kid on the block and lost that attraction. Other smaller Chicago brewers are pounding the pavement by holding tasting at random liquor stores and the Chicago Market is expanding fast. I would really hate an innovative brewer like Pipeworks get left in the dust.

Didn't we have this discussion back on page 61 or so of this thread?

So much trolling and pessimism.

Hour plus long lines for double daisy cutter midday on a Friday...HOLY **** I HATE THIS HOBBY.
I'm dissapointed that you didn't post the pictures of the line. What the hell did I take them for?
