I thought about it, but I haven't had enough to justify the expense. I've only had two beers from them, and one (Bushel and a Peck) was nearly a drain pour for me.
That's what I was getting at. I could see if their beer was excellent and difficult to attain, but it isn't so why give them an interest free loan?

Were you able to get any vurrients? Somebody tipped me off a few hours before someone on BA posted about it.

Nope, I actually happened to stumble into the store randomly, not even aware they sold out probably 10 minutes before I got there. Shame too, I was looking to score another Backyard.

Heard through the grapevine last weekend that the Whole Foods Lincoln Park was going to sell the variants starting tomorrow morning. Then, this week, Goose Island announced the huge tap takeover event, with bottle sales commencing at 5 pm (see above). Are they really going to delay sales until 5 pm, despite the ridiculous amount of traffic this will cause in the store during peak afterwork shopping hours? I know Goose Island will welcome the publicity, but I'm hoping for some clarification from others. Is this a ploy to reduce traffic when they open in the morning (when, unbeknowst to most of the outside world, Whole Foods WILL sell bottles)? Or is the BCBS chase causing me to be overly paranoid? Probably the latter

I talked to someone at the Red Star bar last week (a woman who looked like she was a manager... she had lots of things written down!) and she said bottles would go on sale at 5pm to coincide with the beer tappings. But that was last week.

A. Baudoina is still amazing.

B. A brewer at one of the Black Friday tastings confirmed that the "88 barrels" figure being thrown around for Coconut means beer barrels, not the 55 gallon bourbon barrels. Also, the whole process was so inefficient, they lost a third of the volume once they got down to bottling. Also, no kegs -- all of the coconut went into barrels.

Or, I think - it was pretty loud and there was no one yell at everyone else to be quiet. Point being, coconut may be relatively rare/limited after all.

And the person asking the hard-hitting questions on bottle counts? JE-effin-Gross - so he can better come up with the definitive trade value.

C. No clue about more coffee, barleywine or even the regular. I don't know why we didn't think to ask.

He specifically said said they were thirty something gallon barrels

Via facebook, Bottles & Cans is doing a raffle on Saturday for their allotment of BCBS:

We will be releasing these as a raffle. We open at 11am, but no need to line up early! Come by anytime between 11am - 11:59am to get your raffle ticket. At Noon we will pull tickets and if your's is selected you will have the option to purchase up to TWO items. An item is:

You can purchase two of the same, or two different items (1 bottle each)

Regardless if your raffle ticket is pulled or not, we will have each of the three Variants open for Free Samples!!! Along with a few other treats hiding in our cellar!!! Tasting will start immediately following the raffle...

But I picked this news up via BA so... expect the hordes. I really like the store, though, and have been wanting to grab a burger at Bad Apple for a while now...

Looks like Bryan Shimkos (formally of Flossmoor and Half Acre) has been named the head brewer at Ale Syndicate. It's good to see Bryan finally back in a real brewery, hopefully this move pans out. I look forward to trying some of Bryan's beers in the near future.

I thought Ale Syndicate was hell bent on making average beer.

This move could be

FWIW, I was at the Hofbrau haus in Rosemont last weekend and the beer wasn't half bad. I think I had a zwickel dunkelweizen that was pretty damn good. Cool atmosphere too.

I couldn't remember exactly where he was at before this, thanks for the reminder.
