So stores have been getting second shipments of BCBS & variants over the past few days ... but I still haven't heard of a place that didn't get coffee the first time around getting coffee in this wave. I've done well on all the other variants despite being out of town on Black Friday, but I have no coffee. I know it's one of the tougher ones this year, but am I just having bad luck with my regular spots getting shut out or is this universal?

And actually, I still can't wrap my head around the numbers for Coconut. Consensus seems to be they got ~1500 cases? I know, there are pallets still in their warehouse for QC'ing and if you account for some kegs, that number could go down even further. Even if only 1000 cases made it to retailers, that's 12000 bottles. It doesn't seem like most people got more than 2-3, if that (or maybe I'm not watching various 'hauls' threads closely enough), so is there just a new breed of truck chasers out there that stick to places like Craigslist, Redditt and Facebook? As cynical as I am, I just can't believe the Chicago market is that insane.

Or maybe I'm just that thick. I'll gladly accept the "No ****, genius" award.

I agree with you that it seems like Coconut should be more plentiful ... with the exception of a couple of stores that got a single case and put it out without limits, it sounds like it's been limit one everywhere that got it, even though a lot of accounts got it. GI seems to really be pushing to make each store's release an event, whether on Black Friday or afterwards (like Whole Foods yesterday and Bottles & Cans today). That creates hype and seems to be driving demand.

Last year coffee was a breeze after the first wave. It would be ridiculous if they made more coffee this year, put it in a smaller bottle, and yet somehow it's harder to find. I'm really hoping we'll see multiple waves of everything like we did last year for regular and coffee, but nobody seems to know. Such a huge difference in difficulty from last year. Did demand really increase that much, or did the Black Friday and other store events really whip all the Chicago truck chasers into a frenzy?

Don't forget bar/restaurant accounts. I bet they take a healthy % of bottles. Also definitely saw some 12 bottle+ hauls from truck chasers.

In other news, I've been planning a Founders Tasting (bottle share style) for the past few months and we have finally set a date, January 4th, 2014 (sometime in the early afternoon, exact time TBD). I am currently ironing out details for the location but there is a good chance that we will be using the bar at the South Loop Binnys.

I've been talking to their beer manager and hopefully we'll have a few surprises on tap as well. I posted a spreadsheet on a few of the Facebook groups a couple months ago and it looks like we've got all the Backstage series and some pretty healthy verticals lined up. Message me for further details or to RSVP and let me know what you can bring. We could still use duplicates of the more rare Backstage bottles and older vintage stuff, depending on how many people attend. I'll probably cap it at 15 people until we find a second bottle of CBS.

Only reason I got 6 coffee was I lucked out Tuesday before Thanksgiving on the south side and got a 4 pack. Otherwise I would be at 2. I remember passing on coffee last year because of the price increase, but know you can't even f'ing find it!!!

FwB is going to prove to be my greatest $100 investment ever. Finally, great Chicago beer that I don't have to fisticuff FIBs over. Here's looking at you Proprietor's.
