I am in no way implying that Gonzoillini is supporting such actions, just that said "Like" could look quite bad when it is purposely taken out of context. Like I did.

I apologize if this was offensive.
Maybe a single GonzoIllini like means something now.

He’a not the Photekut we want but the like of judgement that we all need.

Or I was stretching too hard.

Just saw a five minute piece on Fox 32s morning show about Prop Day and how/where to buy this year’s BCBS and variants. It wasn’t the typical news story about a beer release like “wow, look at these lines.” It was a legit advertisement and talking about the Bang Bang Pie collab while doing a cooking segment too.

That #corporatemoney

Don't underestimate the desperation tv producers have for fluff pieces in a 5.5 hour morning show

Fair point is fair, and I hope folks know me well enough that I would never support something awful like that. Pretty much what lurchingbeast said, and I'm known to be way too generous with the ole like button. Appreciate the thought / concern though as I honestly didn't see that perspective until you brought it up.

I guess that it was a joke wasn't clear enough? Internetting is hard sometimes. I absolutely figured you don't support baby-shakin'.

OR MAYBE YOU DO.

My Internetting skills are getting worse and worse these days...

Imperial Oak in the nearish future? I believe jmgrub and a few other FIBS will be out there on 11/17 for a few drinks if you (or anyone else who is reading this thread honestly) are available.

I wrapped up work a little early so decided I'd stop by Begyle to try some of the BA imperial Pajamas thinking would be chill. Is packed, multiple have kicked so far, and I'm in a line snaking around the equipment to get pours.

What in the F?

What The **** Is "Begyle?"

Heh. I mean, I used to be here a little more often when we lived in uptown. Stuff is generally solid, but the BA stuff never blew me away (including what I am having now). I am baffled by the crowd here on a late Fri afternoon. And people continuing to flow in. Good for them though.

Prop day review:
Weather ended up being quite nice especially around 1:30 or so. Didn't even need my gloves after that. It did drop noticeably around 4ish but the place was a ghost town by then. Pretty firm on the token taking although they switched dry hop 312 to free pours later.

Setup was pretty solid. The wristbands were the only real bottleneck. I would've waited in more lines if I knew how firm the token taking was going to be because I ran out of tokens by like 3:45. The line to get bottles was kind of a mess but it moved faster than expected. Free hard cover grit and grain book was nice. No new merch of any interest to me. I snagged the BCBS bitters early for $10 with no line. Got the $7 hot sauce too. It's damn hot. Free wings from them was great. The free sample of bang bang pie was on point. Loved the vosges midnight orange chocolates. I wasn't up for gelato but they handed out a load of free samples. The little goat tacos were fantastic. Well worth $11 for two. All of the vendors were well spread out with almost no lines. The one line I should've waited in early in the day was Heaven Hill. The people literally in front of me got the last pairs of free socks. I did get a barrel pull from the EC12 barrel though and that was nice bourbon. All in all another great and fun event. I paid up for the mystery bottle which was older Props in a wall where you chose the slot you wanted that was covered by tissue paper. I guessed well and got Prop 14. Lots of Prop 16s were being pulled. An employee said there was one 13 and I heard some 17s too.

To the beer, opened with original which was pretty bourbon forward and quite thick. Another solid year. Maybe close to 12 or 13 in richness and bourbon character. Prop was my next pour. Big fudgy bitter chocolate dessert. Not overtly sweet but way smoother than original. Quite good. Nowhere near pastry sweet. Bramble Rye was next. Not close to OG Bramble or Backyard. Not jammy. Some fruit notes that complement the base beer. A hint of rye spice but you wouldn't notice unless you're looking for it. Kind of disappointed because I love Backyard. Midnight Orange was the surprise for me. It tastes like a dark chocolate covered orange peel dipped in bourbon. It paired well with the vosges chocolates too. I really enjoyed this one. Big time surprise. Vanilla is a giant marshmallow. Big time vanilla nose and all vanilla. Like knock you over the head with vanilla. I loved it. It would be tough to kill a bottle by yourself though unless you set aside 3 or 4 hours because it's like filling your mouth with marshmallows. Reserve was a real showcase for the bourbon. Richer flavor. Oak and bourbon heat. Up near the tops of the day. Cherry Rye has minimal fruit character left but was a fun pour in line from their backpack keg. Prop 17 was great as the mystery pour. Loads of banana and cinnamon. I got a sip of a buddy's wheatwine. It was nice. Some pineapple upside down cake. Good caramel notes. Not too thin but thinner than barleywine. I missed coffee barleywine. I was simply out of tokens. I think that covers everything.

Motherfuck, I need this.
FYI: It's pretty easy to make a beer-based bitters substitute just by making a light simple syrup using your favorite beer. Basically just reduce with a little bit of sugar (I usually use turbinado). I did this the first time with the last few ounces of a Rev 3rd Year a few years ago. Even with something as sweet as that, the process brings out a bitterness in it. It functions as a pretty good bitters alternative with some of the beer aspect in tact. Basically, you could probably do something similar to the BCBS stuff at home.

I've made beer syrup a number of times, but that's very different from actual bitters. I'd love to know the recipe they used and if they distilled some BCBS for the base spirit, which would be awesome. Plus I collect unique bitters (up to about 25 bottles) so I mostly want it for my collection.

not that i am positive of this but if i had to imagine.... tonight at maria's is a brewers chili battle and Im not quite a gambler but i am guessing there's gonna be BCS chili from goose. if your lookin for something to do tonight, stop by, say hi. if its not BCS chili, yell at them and ask why in the world they made an old man grumpy chili.
