I'm sure this is on facebook somewhere, but in case anyone is older/more out of touch than me...according to that "other" site...

Anyone done Black Friday at Jewel or Binny's in the burbs before (specifically North Shore)? I'm in Wilmette for Thanksgiving and it's looking like I might be able to sneak out on Friday morning, but I'm not trying to stand in line at 5:00 AM, so would love to know how casual (or how much of a production) these are.

I think that Dunt did Skokie Binny's a few years ago with success.

You should be fine to get some regular if you show up by 8 or 9 - if you want those sweet, sweet variants, though, 5am would be best.

That's been my experience anyway with a city Jewel - dunno about those suburban Jewels.

Info here, like rmalinowski4 said: https://www.jewelosco.com/2018/11/goose-island-bourbon-county-stout-2018/

Thanks man! Regular will probably be on the shelf in Kona in a couple weeks LOL. Figured I'd swing by a couple places and see if I can swing any variants (particularly interested in the Orange and the Wheatwine), but don't know if the suburban Jewels and Binny's will be seeing any of those. If it doesn't happen, oh well. Gonzoillini already loaded me up with killer stuff to take back and I swung by Rev and grabbed a 4 pack of Cafe Deth as well (I thought Cafe Deth was really good this year).

The last couple years I have been lucky enough to stand in line for 10 minutes before a certain store opens and have managed to get variants. But it's a deep, dark secret I'll take to my grave.

The catch is you have to buy them by the case.

I lived in Northern IL for 35 years and this is the first time I have heard of the town Mettawa.

Actually had the opposite problem last year: they had signs marking limit 1 per variant, limit 4 for regular. But the manager overseeing the checkout lines was interpreting that as 1 per, 4 max total.

Anyway, they've had only a few cases of the variants in previous years so you do need to get their a bit early since there will be 10-20 people in line for that. And another 20 in line for something else on sale.

I had to Google the location. I just know it's the one off 94.

But it doesn't surprise me. Did you know there's an Illinois town called Golf that's snuggled between Skokie and Glenview? I only discovered it because it has the closest post office to my job and it's like this one room tiny little thing.

You are the first person I've seen that didn't learn about Golf from getting pulled over because their speed limits are parking garage level.

You should be good to scoop a few variants from Jewel, as long as you check out the release times/info posted above. Each Jewel gets different allotments, some will have all variants, other stores might just have 1 or two. Just don’t expect to be able to hit multiple stores in the AM and score get multiple rounds of variants. These northern/NW burb releases always have a line before opening and the first 20 or so people in line snag all the variants. The lines aren’t as early and long as Binny releases, so they’re your best bet. But Jewels usually also have lower variant limits and/or less variant options.

Word to the wise about Costco; some stores get a **** load of variants and regular, some get nothing. Some stores impose limits, others don’t. Each store seems to do the release differently so it can be a crapshoot. You might be able to buy a full case, you might completely strike out.

All of the suburban Binny's will receive all of the variants, it's just a matter of how much. For Binny's you are going to need to be lined up fairly early to get a shot at all variants, but showing up closer to opening may score you a couple variants along with the regular (wheat wine / coffee barleywine maybe)

For Jewel Osco, all of the EVENT stores listed in the link dan posted will have all of the variants, again, expect to line up early to score them. The other Jewels in the list will receive some variants. Any Jewel not in that list is probably only receiving regular at best.

I learned about it because it has its own Metra stop on the MDN line.

I think ONLY the 10 event stores will have variants this year. The others may have some vintage things though

So the non-event stores will have some variants of 2018 but you can’t say which ones or how many? Will there be a limit of what you can purchase at those stores?
