Olde Hickory making the "They sell Olde Hickory in Chicago now? But why?" retail debut here this week

Aside from some of the barrel aged stuff (Irish Walker, Lindley Park, Event Horizon, Omega Point jumping to mind), I can't really think of any of their regular lineup I have ever had before (let alone enjoyed enough to purchase over the number of other options on the shelf).

I'm sure they'll have a great first order like most new players in Chicago, but unless they have a dedicated presence in the market with reps / visibility / etc... they will end up like all of the other out of state breweries that think Chicago is a juicy market.

I very much enjoy some nicely aged Event Horizon

Please stop calling that abomination of a brewpub Clybourn. Clybourn is dead and in its place is a soulless lifeless shell that even Adan can't save.

Now let’s turn it over to Arnie pye with “Arnie in the Sky”:

"WOW! Lining up for beer? Crazy!"

Also crazy, the other channel's discussion on the secondary price for the set, the asinine discussion prior to that talking about the differences between Abraxas and BAA, how BAA should go 1:1 with whatever this ridiculous pastry stout is, talking about how amazing whatever MoRE is for both regular and BA versions of whatever they release, the oft repeated discussions of how people are peeing in places they shouldn't, the talk about how the line smells like barnyard animals (or something similar - OK this one is more a statement of fact - at least it doesn't smell like the stale fart of FoBAB), the calls for more descriptions of fights happening in line...

Beer in 2018.

Unfortunately, beer culture (even our society as a whole, I suppose) is currently in a state of outrage fetishism. Popular culture has created a generation of people who scour every facet of the world looking for anything to be upset about, and then blow even the smallest things out of proportion.

MAYBE YOU DIDN'T READ ABOUT PEOPLE LINING UP FOR A BEER I DON'T WANT, AT A BREWERY I'M NOWHERE NEAR, PAYING PRICES THAT I FIND OFFENSIVE EVEN THOUGH I WON'T BUY SAID BEER!!?!??

I'M OFFENDED THAT YOU DON'T FIND THAT OFFENSIVE!

Long time listener, first time caller. I think the “split the baby” approach is having a dedicated events thread that all of those types of things can go to.

Or, at the least, a majority agree on whatever protocol is, then we can berate those who try to argue with the majority.

Again, as an observer, it seems like the issue isn’t the fact the events are brought up, but whether any spin is put on them. So maybe posts about events stick to details about the event and exclude the opinions.

Then again, I’m just some ****** guy.

Harrison Stevens???

The smells like a barnyard thing is because there's a company that sells and distributes mulch right next to the front of the line, on the trail.

Much aroma this morning

Speaking of gin barrel beers...

Hey, middlebrow , this BA'd White Light is quite ******* good. Spicy and floral and, most importantly, really unique.

But any positive feeling of contributions that my purchase may have made is reduced by the fact that somebody decided to print the benefitting charity's name in yellow on a light blue background which makes it, y'know, completely illegible.

For real though I am a sucker for well done gin BA sours and this is one of the better ones I can remember. Dude told me they are bottling it next week, I’m already bugging my southside friends.

The Gin BA beer from imperial oak here at BUG is fantastic, Gin Barrel Aged Blanc

Glad you enjoyed it, had two pours of it this evening and if I didn't have another event I would have played the game to see how many I could have drank before I required an Uber.

Tom Cat Gin barrels from Copper and Kings in Louisville. LT made the connection a couple years back at The Festival and the barrels have been a point of conversation for folks for a year + (they have bright orange head staves and the classic Black Cat logo stamped on them).

Also the head brewer did just drop a quote to rmalinowski4 that their is a plan for bottles next week.

Also got to try this masterpiece tonight (excuse the Chicago Pour, I was drinking before I remembered to take a picture)

Wasn't bad, but has that same chocolate syrup finish that all More stouts have which is decidedly not my thing. Prop 14 was so much better especially as we opened this just afterwards.
