312 Block Party -- how big of a shitshow is this? A band I love (Pelican) is playing but I don't want to pay to see them if the space isn't really good for that sort of thing.

I sometimes get these events mixed up, but I believe the wife and I went to this last year. It was actually pretty good because it rained right up to the beginning of the fest so it kept things comparatively sparse early on.

They ran it well, like at Great Taste. Pre-filled pitchers and cycled people through quickly on BCS.

Only complaint was that lurchingbeast I think drank most of the Violet Hour BCS before the normal line got to it.

Was this the event where I got drunk and pretended to work for Goose as "Ambassador of Brand Management"? Or are you talking about the time we almost tapped Violet Hour BCS on the tap deck on a random Wednesday "by mistake"?

Re Lagunitas - I'm of the mind that I don't really give two ***** since this is pretty much the industry standard at this point. That being said, someone likes his high horse:

If this means Lagunitas gets annoying as **** commercials like Heinekin, I'll stop drinking.

I'd rather have deceptive and unfair business practices than the kind of brain melting, hipsterish ads Heinie has put out the last ~5 years.

I have purchased surprisingly few 6 packs of Lagunitas since they opened here. I will order whatever new Fusion is available if it is on tap wherever I am, but their Chicago roll-out has been pretty meh for me. It just doesn't seem like they keep the advanced Chicago beer drinker that interested. Yes. I called myself an advanced Chicago beer drinker. I didn't even have to pay for a class.

My remedial ass loved the **** out of High-Westified stout and considers Lagunitas IPA to be a dependable go-to that's available at just about every bar...but overall, I agree with you. While Pipeworks, Half Acre, and Revolution are fridge staples for me, Lagunitas has never qualified for a spot on the grocery list.

I like the atmosphere of their taproom, but consider my palate includes flavors other than ZOMGHOPSSSS!!!1111!!!!! Lagunitas has never been that big of a deal to me, so the sale is also NBD. As long as it doesn't negatively impact my friends that have enjoyed working there, then more power to them.

Same here but it's more because I can't seem to find any Lag sixers that are as fresh as Rev, HA, and now PW. Why would I buy the 1-2 month old Lag when I can consistently buy 1-2 week old Anti-Hero at my local Jewel?

Do we know what brewers are bringing to Goose Belgian Fest? Transient middlebrow Alum (for DeStihl)? Super excited as always.
hmmm...good question.
well defiantly have our new lemongrass/citrus saison hey citrus and a cask of our farmhouse blonde robyn we made with lula cafe with ginger and a half sprig of thyme. maybe an early sixtel of white light (apricot wit) or white heat (pepper wit) depending how it tastes friday. maybe a pilot, bryan made a brett tripel that is bizarre, dry and lovely...probably that too.

If you're not all "yeah, this is our lemongrass/citrus saison, **** you if you don't like it" I'm going to be disappointed in you.

Dig Sucks. Consider Lagunitas IPA the best of the common hoppy beers you generally find in bars around Chicago (especially bars that aren't craft centric OR have little tap space to waste on special/overpriced stuff - pretty much standard bars which are a dime a dozen in Chicagoland).

It's affordable, fresh (especially since it opened here in Chicago), and generally beats the pants off of any other offerings you'd find competing with it in that role (I think Anti-Hero offers a comparable experience but can be a bit more pricey)

I don't buy a ton of it. But it's an offering I always consider if buying beer for a party, the house etc.

I was more entertained yesterday by a lot of the industry folks/brewers that were getting all #madbro about it.

Good for Lagunitas.

Anyone know what to look out for while I'm in SW Michigan this weekend? Newest Shorts, Oddside, etc? Mmmkay or Sticky Icky Icky around? I'll be in New Buffalo and know the local haunts there. Thinking about stopping at Greenbush, the Livery, and that nice liquor store across the bridge in St. Joe's, though the name escapes me at the moment. Looks like Greenbush has a malt liquor with Frosted Flakes on tap called PHD lol.

Didn't come across anything too exciting last weekend myself. I'll be passing back through shortly, though, so speal up if you find anything worth nabbing.

****, I had no idea Pelican was playing the block party. I might just have to make an appearance for this. Haven't seen them since 2010 at the Bottom Lounge.

I have somehow never managed to see them, so I bought tickets. They're on Friday.

zombie dust tasting different...
So my wife and I went to Trenchermen last night, and she ordered a Zombie Dust. What came out was some brett-ed IPA. Pretty clear distinction between brett and citra flavors in my experience, so I politely mention to the waitress that there must be some mistake. I even offered the conclusion that maybe it was Battle Priest since I've been seeing that floating around on draft. She comes back and says, nope, it's Zombie Dust.

Did anyone with any experience with craft beer even taste it?

My point... They must have changed the recipe because Zombie Dust tastes different now.

If you would stop mansplaining for a minute, you would realize that 3 Floyds is an all-brett brewhouse now.

Stopped by Sheffield's for dinner last night, and there was a mini Rev tap takeover in beer school bar. '14 and '15 SJ. Blue and Bean Gene. Civil Unrest. A few others.

Thought bean gene and '14 SJ were nice. Small amount of '15 I had was very boozy. Blue gene was a little medicine-y, though better than whatever weird version was on at Binnys LP a few weeks ago.

Pricing a little bit of a killer now anymore, though. Snifters of everything (8 or 9oz?), and Genes were essentially $1/oz. 15 SJ was $10 and 14 was $12.

thats been the one ****** side effects of craft beer being everywhere and readily available at so many bars. servers/bartenders have no idea what styles or beers are, wrong **** is constantly labeled & tapped, and lines are dirty as Philadelphia Collins's cheeseburgers.

this has been happening way more often than it should. especially the dirty lines, So often I get a beer and go to take a whiff and all I smell is a off putting dirty sock/locker-room smell

Agreed. I hate that. It seems to be happening a lot. I'd say there's about a 50/50 chance when you go into an average bar that has craft of either a dirty line or not even flushing and bleeding the line when switching kegs.
