i am thinking of either doing an alesmith ipa clone or a threefloyds dreadnaught imperial ipa clone. how long would i have to let each ferment??? this is one of the deciding factors on which one i want to do, i like imperials better but i would like a beer to drink pretty soon since i am all out of home brews now.

i would say they are going to both take some time...even the alesmith at 7.25%. i wouldnt drink something that high until atleast 8 weeks... and the imperial @ 9.5%? i might go 3 months with that one... thats just me though and i'm no pro.

If you want something to drink fast do a hefeweizen or bitter or something like that. Get a brew under your belt then go for one of the IPAs.

+1

I brewed a hefeweizen last Saturday that I just kegged and am enjoying right now. It'll still take a few days to carb, but is quite tasty. I brewed an IPA at ~6.3% a month ago that I just kegged last week and I've got two bigger brews in primary 2 and 3 weeks now that will be there at least another two weeks each. Make something to drink now, then make something to enjoy later.
