Favorite dry yeast for Bocks/Doppelbocks?

I’m interested in brewing up some bocks and doppelbocks this fall but my LHBS has a pretty poor selection of liquid yeasts. I’m a big fan of dry yeasts for ales but have no experience beyond 34/70 for lagers.

I’d love to hear your experiences with dry yeasts for bocks and which ones were your favorites!

34/70 is absolutely the way I'd go. It will get out of the way and let the malt have its moment. It's forgiving and reliable. There are lagers that might benefit from other yeasts, but doppelbock is what 34/70 does best.

I brew a Munich Dunkle with 34/70 then use that yeast cake to ferment a Doppelbock.

Diamond and S-189 are both excellent, and I think better than W-34/70.

I’ve been hearing great things about both of those. Might have to give them a try.

1000% this. 34/70 is my go-to for German Starkbier in general.

Diamond and S-189 are both excellent, and I think better than W-34/70.

S-189 is what a local brewery more or less uses as their house lager recipe, since theirs are usually a bit more on the malty side. They use it in their Dark Lager to good results, so I could imagine it being great in a doppelbock.
