Anyone using the new Fast Ferment 3gal for their cider? Need something for medium size batches....either going the Speidel 3.2 gal or this 3gal Fast Ferment.

I just got one (for beer). I like it so far, it doesn't take up any space and it came with everything you need in the box. My only concern so far is that it leaked (a small amount) and I don't know if that could lead to infection or not. I wrapped it with 8 layers of teflon tape, it suggests between 5-10, I noticed in the first 2-3 days that maybe a 1/4 ounce had leaked out. I should know by Saturday if it all worked out.

Because of conical shape, ability to pull lees off from the bottom and, in my opinion the best feature, a top opening big enough to get your hand in for cleaning.
I haven't yet, but I am planning on getting at least one of these.

So I went to package my beer today, the beer looked great and even though there was some very minor seepage from the fermenter to the collection jar (through the threading) it did not appear to have caused any issues. With all that I used a blow off hose into a jar of star San water, I did not take that out of the water prior to filling my bottles and after the first bottle it started to pull the sanitized water into the fermenter (lesson learned). The bottling would have been very easy, I used some carbonation drops and removing the trub and yeast was beyond easy. My recommendations would be to put a slightly larger mason jar on it to get all the trub, and put a dish under it for when fermenting as well as removing the mason jar.

Have not used one, but I'm thinking about getting one of these for my ice ciders. Should make it easier to control fermentation speed/stop fermentation by taking lees out. Also means easier cold crashes for clarification, less hassle with racking so less chances of infecting the cider with nasty bacteria. Tell us how you like it if you do get one eventually :).

At 26" tall...looks like it will just make it in my basement fridge when I remove the shelf....

So trying to decide if I go with 3gal fast ferment......or the 5.3gal speidel. Have two 7.9gal speidels and they kick ass [emoji12]

What’s the actual capacity? The original fast ferments were almost 7 gallons to the top, so you could fill up a 5 or even 6 gallon glass carboy even after removing the lees a few times. These were designed for beer but it makes multiple racking for Cider super easy- I use them to clarify juice as well after hitting it with PME. No need to siphon! These make near perfect primary fermentation vessels but you def want to transfer to glass if you plan to age your ciders. Too much headspace for anything once CO2 production slows down

Oh about the leaking. I have two full size ones and they leaked until I retained them with more Teflon. Use double what you think and make sure you tighten them as much as possible- due to the shape there is a huge amount of pressure on the valve body- I still get some slight seepage but it dries up and stops after a day
