Tome Thursday! Decided to open this one since the 17 I had last night was so unique, another 2013 stickered release. This one is really fun, grapefruit zestiness and candied orange on the nose. Initial taste is akin to grapefruit soda with a slight herbal bitterness and almost eucalyptus character. Spices are defintely mellow, but a bit of menthol is coming through on the finish. Love that. Higher carbonation, but still that velvety feel on the tongue. This one is pure ghostly bliss.

It was a Friday night and I haven’t had a beer since Sunday, so I didn’t slow down to take notes. Delicious, though. Nothing premature about it.

This is what I believe to be one of the most majestic attributes of Fantome.

I’ll never forget the first time I sat down with a tome, ripped the cork out with a violent POP and the liquid just sat there in the bottle with not a single visible indication of carbonation. Almost as if the carbonation itself loved being in the solution so much that it didnt want to come out.

But then as your pour it into your glass, it unwillingly breaks its bond with the ghost.

I wanna be this high.

Decided to open a Brise-BonsBons today while doing some yard work. Beautiful 50 degree day calls for some ghostly goodness. Last bottle I opened from this batch was mid September 2016, that one was grassy, bitter, lemon pith and dank earthy funk. This one is way different, malty. Flavor of honeyed navel oranges, spicy yeast and finishes with burnt sugar and a bit of booze. Funky crepe suzette. Soft, crackly carbonation.

I recently wandered into the tome forest to see what was happening.

Forest Ghost is doing great. Fruity esters, clove, ghostly mustiness, and a delightfully bitter finish. This has been one of my recent favorites. I'm glad I impulsively bought about five of these last year.

Dark Forest Ghost is still dangerously carb'd. I've heard tales of this one really erupting. I was ready to pour immediately after the cork came out and was able to avoid most of the gushing. I hadn't had this one in almost a year and a half. It seems to be improving to my tastes. A light tartness/brightness it creeping in with some malty flavors trying to fight their way to the forefront. A lovely experience.

If I drink enough of these, I will someday understand the palm trees on the label.

A few tome' excursions lately,

DMD Target Bond (blonde?) Ale - A well made Belgian pale type of experience with a De Ranke/Thiriez type of clove/smoky yeast note. Also, had a menthol type of cooling spice finish that we couldn't figure out. Lighter carbonation. Worth picking up if you come across it.

Threw a few Fantomes into the mix at this share,
Chocolat - The chocolate note was that of a dusty couch cushion. You know, like the one every college dude has in his apartment.
Ete - This was part of a batch that hit my area back in 2014 that hadn't carbed up. I was hoping holding onto it for a few years would help but it was still flat. Taste was really unique, sour strawberries w the seeds and a malty vinegar note. Not much in the way of Fantome spicing. Would love to try a carbonated batch.
Artist 2 - Belgian dubbel w a firm Noble Hop character. Top basically blew off, though it didn't gush as much as Dark Island Ghost. Worth checking out.

I broke my Fantome tulip tonight in a way so flukey that it sounds like it’s out of a Mickey Mouse cartoon.

This will ease my pain.

I opened a few tomes during an Oscar party. The lighting was not optimized for my beer pictures.

I ordered a handful of these from Etre in Sept. 2017 and finally opened one. It was perfect in every way. The color, the carb, the nose, the taste. Everything that makes Fantome wonderful was present. I shared it with a Belgian friend who had never heard of Fantome. I'm glad he was able to experience peak ghost.

This was a 2016 bottle, I think. It was also stellar. Very "fruity." Not really sweet tasting. It just reminded me of sweet tasting things, or something. Each pour from the bottle got greener and greener. The dreg pour looked almost radioactive. I saw a magic show on Saturday and drank this on Sunday. My weekend was pretty magical now that I think about it.

Tomesters in the know already are aware this comes from the smoke stack era of rubber inferno. I was dragging my feet on opening this but glad I did. Smoke is evident on the back but the overall profile is quite fruity with an intense acidity. Far and away the most sour ghost ive had.

Also, the new batch of Classic on Etre is awesome, just got my bottles in, great tropical fruit flavors. The new Dalmatienne is very bitter, let that sit a bit.

Still have new Dark White and Hiver to try soon.

And the new Lea Journey should be out soon, both stateside and Etre I think

Slowly but surely going through my first Etre crate that was largely dominated by Fantome. First got into the Landlocked which admittedly didn't seem to have much going on (though I have a second which I'm definitely happy to revisit). Then cracked a Magic Ghost which was as perfect and brilliant as I remember it being.

Some others that I grabbed and have never tried before are Ton Ton Robert, the newest Sante, and Chocolat.
