Man today was sooo frustrating waking up late and forgetting to put 2 of my 3 pitchers up to start. Watching hoping the rest of m guys could close the 50pt deficit, right now only reyes and ruiz are left playing trying to close a 15 pt gap...and hellboy and bailey made 17.6 each so I left 55.2 pts on the bench which even 1 of the starts would have given me the win and the high krausen. Now NEST just has the issue of deciding if DRS's 564+ on the bye- counts for the high krausen or if HBC's out of the usual awesome 554.8 week counts more...

Don't pass judgement on yourself or others until you wake up Monday morning. I had a win taken away this year by a scoring change. Fell asleep content on Sunday night. Woke up infuriated Monday AM.

JohnnyO,
Care to wager a 6 pack of SoCal commercial craft brews vs. NE brews? Hopefully my team performs better than the last 2 matchups I've blown. What say you?

Hell yeah I do! My team has been stumbling of late, but I think they have a good week in them.

I hear ya! My team has been blowing it for me the last 2 weeks as well. Hopefully I can bounce back this week.

I'm happy that you accepted my wager:mug:

Totally missed out on the last page of conversation. WOW

Yeah I really like lee and I really like wainwright but I didnt see you flipping wainwright for just lee, probably should have tried but either way remembered you were a mets fan. Im excited to our rematch, still bummed from last match ups sunday bobble, man it would have been awesome to have that 14 win streak next to my name, I swear it kept me going this whole time lol. Imtrying to get things in line for the match up with having pretty much no out fielders with cruz on the DL and cargo having that train crash into the LAD wall. This year has been a lot of fun, whether I win or just make 4th its been fun and am already looking forward to next year. Did anyone ever bring up the prize for 1st? saw in the past guys sent some of their own home brew to the winner/s.

It's been an awesome inaugural year for the league. We have some great people here. Hopefully, we can make it even better next year with some additions and tweaking the scoring system.

I think we had toyed with the idea of doing a prize for the first place winner, but didn't decide on anything. How about the winner gets a six pack (homebrew, commercial or mixed) from each of the people in the final four? It could be some local craft brew from their area if commercial brew.

Other thoughts?

Nice finish this week, Othon. Those two pick ups look to have put you over the top. I probably should have done the same, but fell asleep at the wheel doing some home renovations this week.

What NE beers have you been interested in trying? New England Brewing Co. is currently canning up 4 packs of their Gandhi-Bot IIPA. had a growler of it straight from the bright tank this weekend. It's delicious.

VICTORY:rockin: Feels good to snap that 2 game losing slide. Luckily, my spot starts paid off, as your 135+ point Sat. had me worried!

John, I'd be happy with any 6 pack you send me...mixing it up would be cool. Hell, if you add a few extra brews to the sixer,I'll be happy to send you some AWESOME California beer back:mug: I have some beers I'm 99.99% positive you've NEVER tried... I did this for Ray, and he loved em.

If I'm lucky enough to make the playoffs, I'd be more tan happy to bet a six pack each round! I'm also willing to wager a six pack for the winner

oh boy, here we go again

um, this is really bad.... My team is going to play two lest match-ups (for the season!) than teams in my own division. Two more weeks before the playoffs start. We need to seriously clean this league up before we start next year. Two less games is complete unfair and had I known that I wouldnt have spent so much time managing my team. Oh yeah only four teams out of 12 go to the playoffs is dumb too. But nothing nearly as bad as teams not playing equal amount of games...lol

I agree that next year we dont necessarily have to have the byes, i at first was very concerned with the fact I had 4(FOUR!) bye weeks :rockin: in comparison to everyones 2 or 3 (like you). It ended up working out, allowing me to take my vegas and alaska trip. (not planned but landed on 2 of those weeks luckily), I had 4 bye weeks but still made the best of it :ban: I would think most would agree and I put a lot of time into my team, those 4 added up are 2 total games behind. Another team who had 4 bye weeks was the perlicks, hes raking right now, thank God he isnt in the playoffs cause her would kill everyone. I agree we should all talk :tank: about improvements for the league next year. Whether it be adding teams, adding/lowering the number of keepers to 8 or 10, eliminating bye weeks, expanding playoffs, utilizing divisions, and many other things. Either way win or lose :mug: it was fun, even if I lose it all and land in fourth, I have one regret, that one additional blemish from 2 weeks ago when I forgot to start 2 pitchers sunday, 14 W streak would have been cool :fro: , but hey Its all a game, lol. :tank:

we've played the same amount of games, hence we've had the same amount of byes. Had I won my two missing chances...I would have a shot at the playoffs this year. Not trying to sound like nothing but a whiner, but it is rather ridiculous

It's easy to complain about the season now. Hindsight is always 20/20...It's been ALOT of fun this year-I'm sure we can all agree on changes for next years league. Sure the BYES suck the divisions didn't matter, but hey,I'm happy that we have 11 out of 12 awesome owners:rockin:

I know you're NOT trying to sound like a whiner, but you do sound like one, haha!

sorry for expressing my concerns....all this BS "hindsight is 20/20" nonsense is not helping. MMTG don't call me out like that; I don't deserve it. These leagues are supposed to be fun granted...I didnt even have the same opportunities as others in the league to advance. Can we at least admit thats not a good thing?

And, I did have fun...but in hindsight I wouldnt have spent the time I did considering it was never a level playing field.

It's our first year playing together here @ HBT. Johhny O has done a great job as league manager. Is our league perfect? No,of course not! But we will have plenty of time before next season to fine tune our FBB league.

Calling you out for whining is fair play because YOU decided to moan about not having the same chances to win. If it makes you feel any better, your victory over me 2 weeks ago may be the deciding factor if I get into the playoffs as a Wild Card...The 179+ points you scored that saturday effectively decapitated my team. That was one of the best points days for an of my opponents all season! i then lost to PEI Yankees and now must win back to back matchups as the Desert Rat squad is breathing down my neck.

You should have accepted my 6 pack wager, lol. Then you'd be able to drink the spoils of your victory

Goose Boners pitching alone got 175 points yesterday...unbelievable! I was up on the high krauzen award by over 100 points mid day yesterday and he pulled that off for the trophy....by 2 points. Not my year I guess

Ray has done a complete 180 degree turn with his team. It's great owners like him(and the additional 10 teams in our league) that have made this year so much fun for me. You have a solid team and should be right back in contention next year.

Yeah I remember having the high krausen in the bag 2 or 3 weeks ago and was stoked to get my 7th. And on Sunday PEIY and his pitching(brandon morrow) had his game of the century with 17 k's, it made up for the difference real fast and I was forced to wait for that 7th some other day. Hopefully this week lol.

Is your(hoppydaze) team the portland perlicks? Cause when I wrote my first response I totally. Thought you were the yankees, that's why I said you only had 3 byes. If you are the perlicks I apologize yes we both are the only ones to have 4 byes. I thought you were the yankees because their on their 2nd bye in a row this week(that's why I thought you said here we go again.)
I agree their frustrating but like I said we both had the same amount of match ups so you weren't alone. Congrats on haveingsome awesome weeks recently.

I have to say that this season's been a lot of fun, even though my team has let me down several weeks in a row. Well, that and my opponents have been just crushing it in that time. Even though I'm scraping bottom in my division, I'll happily be back next year.

Can I make a few suggestions for next year?
  1. Consolidate to two six-team divisions, with the top four in each division going to playoffs.
  2. Cut each playoff round from two weeks to one to make up for the extra # of playoff teams.
  3. Drop the DH position, and instead use a "utility" position which can be filled by any batter.
  4. Seed next year's draft positions based on finish order this year, with the bottom finishers having first draft pick.
  5. Consider awarding 10 points per save (and -5 per BS) to make RP's more relevant.

Just my humble thoughts.

Im concerned of adding save value without either lowering the RP spots from 3 to 2 because there arnt many closers and although I can attest to the awesome value of a set up man with tyler clipperd earning me tons of holds and a league leading 8 wins at the time in the first half of the year, I dont think if we up the save value to that of equal to a SP win it will create that even playing field. Maybe if we do make saves 10 pts we add Quality starts to the mix on the SP side of things. maybe give a quality start like 3, 4, or 5 pts?

I have a had a great time with our first year with the league. I agree with everyone that we need to tweak some of the rules and scoring to make it an even better experience.

I plan to review this thread for everyone's suggested changes and post up a summary post with changes we can make and get feedback from everyone. This way, it will all be ready for next season.

Following up on the great suggestions, how would you feel about dropping the 1B/3B and 2B/SS slots off the teams next year? We could talk about replacing one of those slots with something else, but I just thought it made for ridiculously high scores.

Thanks everyone for making this a fun experience.

I think its all relative, no matter the positions we have it will be equal in sense of equal opportunity for everyone but I do like the idea of eliminating the 2nd/ss and 1st/3rd, and keeping a happy medium between sluggers thoughts maybe keep the dh spot and add one utility spot.

I really like this ^^^ simple and sweet.

I would also like to suggest that we bag divisions and just have a 12 team league where there six playoff teams. The top two teams have a bye in week one of the playoffs. NO BYES in the regular season :D

How about dropping the DH, 2B/SS and 1B/3B, and adding a Utility man and a 4th OF (if possible).

Being a National League fan, I don't like the DH, and it can be hard to field a good DH in fantasy baseball.

My only worry about dropping two roster slots for batters would be whether it upsets the balance between pitching and offensive positions. Fewer offensive players IMO pushes the balance toward pitching.

My pitching staff is the best part of my team, so I wouldn't necessarily complain about that shift, but eliminating two roster slots seems like it takes a lot of offensive points off the boards.
