So I just finished brewing my IPA that I posted about yesterday, I am concerned though that my OG was about 1.090! Will 1 pack of yeast be enough or should I pitch another pack? Any chance this will ferment down? I mean even if it hits the 1.020 mark it would be north of 9% ABV... The sample I took was extremely cloudy and there was noticeable hop residue in the sample... Do you think the sample was accurate? Thanks!

If you have the yeast to pitch two packs, that would be a good idea. For beers of that gravity, a starter saves $ on buying multiple yeast packs.

No second yeast pack right now, won't be able to get one till Monday... Can I pitch then?

You went with extract and the amounts in your first post? If so, your gravity reading is wrong. The recipe was for 5 gallons which would have been 1.070. Unless you managed to end up with 4 gallons in your fermenter, your hydrometer reading was not accurate. And if you did end up with 4 gallons, why wouldn't you have kept topping off to 5 gallons?

The hop residue did not affect your gravity reading unless you had so much in there it was jamming the hydrometer into the side of the jar or created an island for the hydrometer to rest on. Hops are solids.

Best guess is you were really off on your LME weight, your final volume or your hydrometer reading was off.
