I do most of my extract in the last 10-15 minutes. It won't caramelize, keeps your color down and you get better hop utilization in a low gravity wort.
 
Yeah,I use about 1/3 of the extract in the partial boil myself,but in a full boil it'd be great as well. My partial boils have moved up to 3.5G in my 5G BK/MT & is managable when you don't walk away. Hop utilization is better,colors are lighter,& no extract twang. Especially since I use plain DME in the boil,saving LME for late addition. Or most of the LME for the late addition,if that's all you're using.
 
No real advantage to doing it all in the beginning. The only small perk I can think of is if you add your extract all at a lower temp (like 155 after steeping grains) you don't get the big foam up.
