Hope everyone's Saturday has gone nicely!!

We spent our Saturday picking up the ingredients for our next brew!! :ban: We decided to go with an AG BIAB Belgian Triple! :rockin: We are ready & excited about the next brew!! & since we are doing an AG, we are just diving right in!

Belgian Triple

Recipe:


Sugars:

Amount Type
8 lbs. Light Malt Extract
1 lb. Light Belgian Candi Sugar
3/4 c. Corn Sugar Priming

Grains:

Amount Type
2 lbs. Pilsner Malt
1/2 lb. Caramel-Pils Malt

Hops:

Amount Type
1 oz. German Tradition (bittering)
1 oz. Fuggles Hop Pellets (flavoring
1/2 oz. Czech Saaz

Yeast: Safbrew T- 58 Dry Brewing Yeast

Starting Gravity: 1.074
Ending Gravity: 1.016

There you guys have it!! I have pictures to post - but as for now... It's time for me to get ready for a night of fun, drinks & music! We are off to the House of Blues tonight to see a Led Zeppelin Tribute Concert tonight!! Definitely in it to drink some brewskies, although, I know it's Miller Light or Bud Light in a Can.. Oh, well... Good Music at least! ;)

Uh... either I'm confused or you are. AG implies "all grain" which is the opposite of using extract. Since you're using 8 lbs of LME (extract) you're not doing all grain. None of which has any bearing on the quality of what you'll make of course, just was curious.
 
The recipe looks good, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Just a point, though! AG means "all grain". That means, well, using all grain. All grain, and not malt extract. So it's not an AG batch at all, but it still looks like a great recipe and I think you'll enjoy it very much. Extract brewing can make some awesome beers, and there is nothing wrong with using extract. Extract beers have won awards, and I think your recipe is a good solid one.

You WILL have to mini-mash the Pilsner grain. If you don't want to do a mini mash you could add about 1.5 lbs of extract and eliminate it.

So, I think I am going to start a new thread, but since I am new to naming - - - this recipe - - Is it an Extract Partial-Mash Brew?

It would be a partial mash with those 2 lbs of Pilsner grain since that is all that needs to be mashed in this recipe.

But this is an extract brew. It could conceivably be considered a partial mash, due to some base grain in it, but since it's only two pounds it's not giving much in the way of fermentables. It's very much like the extract batches at austinhomebrew.com.

An all grain batch uses only grain, and no extract, for the brew. A partial mash uses quite a bit of grain, to make up a percentage of the fermentables, but does include extract for the majority of fermentables. An extract batch uses extract for the fermentables, but also some steeping grains for color and flavor. I hope that helps!

Aright! Let's Do This!!

The hubby & i went to the LHBS & decided we wanted to do the Belgian... Started with the Munton's Bock Brew Kit & we are just waiting for the bottles to carb! So, in the mean time, we needed something to keep us busy... ;) So, we went with the recipe that I have listed at the beginning of this thread! Cannot wait to work on this brew!! :mug:

I am going to include some pictures of my ingredients so that you guys can see what i am working with here! Again, this is the first extract, grain & hops brew that we are brewing this time!!! :rockin:

For everyone else who has been following & subbing in on my threads.... Bought myself a Hydrometer today! Actually, the guy at Homebrew Headquarters clued me into a used one & sold it to me for only 4$! :rockin:

I also got the little cylinder to test the beer for the hydrometer..

So, here we go Beer Fanatics!! :rockin: I am so excited to be moving right along!! The hubby is excited because we get to make the Belgian!! :D I am excited because tomorrow, it's supposed to rain here in Dallas & I think a Brew Day is in Order!! :) :D :mug:

So.... Just so you guys know... We went with the Belgian Triple ;) Just because... We wanted to go deeper... & because this isn't our first rodeo with a recipe... & we wanted a challenge! So, here's to Cheers!!
 
I used T-58 with my spiced tripel and it sure made it spicey...or it may have been my fermentation temperature roller coaster. 15-20deg swings in 24hrs. :)
I see the shock top in the background. Maybe add some orange or lemon zest to your secondary to get a little citrus zing?
