Extract Kit Shelf Life

I know this has been answered in the past but I can't remember or find the answer. I'm planning on brewing next weekend. I'm purchasing two ingredient kits from Midwest Supplies. One will be sitting in the dark on a shelf for an extra week. Will it be okay?

Keep them cool and dry, but they don't need to go in the fridge. Hops and yeast should, though. Just take them back out to warm up for an hour or so before using them.

Glad you asked that. Wouldn't have known that about the grains, hops or yeast being kept cool.

Whenever I open a 1 lb bag of grains and only use part of it, I reseal that bag and place that in a 1 gal ziplock and store in a closed box in an air conditioned room. It keeps the grains fresh enough to be able to use them for 6 to 8 months (for me anyway). Brew on!:rockin:

I put hops in the freezer, yeast in the butter cubby on the fridge door & LME in the fridge as well. I have sealable dunnage containers for grains & dry brewing ingredients. Or just put the DME, sugars, etc in the pantry.

Yeah, I double-bag and freeze hops if I'm not using them within a couple of days. Otherwise they go in the fridge.
