I've been brewing off/on for the past 6 years. Bottling has turned me off for a while but I bit the bullet and picked up some kegs and a keg setup. Guns Blazin now
Have 3 batches brewed now, all Midwest Supply kits. A Hop head Double IPA, Imperial Stout (in the keg and hidden from my view so I forget about it so it conditions for a while
) and an Oatmeal Stout.
My question, The Oatmeal stout has an insane amount of Trub in it. I used smack packs in all kits. The Oatmeal has easily 4" of Trub in the bottom of a 6.5gallon carboy. It's been in the primary for nearly 3 weeks. The Imperial Stout with nearly 12lb's of LME had 1/2 that. The Oatmeal Stout had only 6lbs so I can't attribute extra sugar/fermentables to the mix.
Anyone have any ideas? Anything to be concerned about? This beer also caused the foam/krausen? to nearly come 2-3" from the top of the carboy. I've never had this one get this crazy before.
