I am setting in BW3's with my wife. I have some friends who recommended that I try a. BLUE MOON and a DOS EQUIS. I tried the blue moon and it was pretty rank but this dos equis tastes like someone drank a good beer and then urinated in a bottle. Do people really drink this stuff???

Neither of those beers are on my favorites list but at least they aren't BMC. Blue Moon was probably one of the first "craft" beers I tried. It wasn't terrible but it encouraged me to look for variety.

All of my friends LOVE blue moon. I hate it. Most of those people also say it is their favorite. I could live with or without XX

The only people I know that like Blue Moon are mexican chicks and Revvy.

Actually I just discovered bluemoon this year in a back assward roundabout way. After having discovered real belgian wits like Hoegaardan, I tried blue moon for the first time...not expecting much....and was surprised how "decent" it is.. Not spectacular, nor a great representation of the style, BUT if you are at a bar and you have the choise of Bud, miller, coors, their "lite" representations and blue moon on tap...I no longer will feel like I am going to die from lack of beer...it's drinkable.

Same with Dos Equis...not the best represntation of the vienna lager/amber lager style...but not un drinkable either.

In fact some commercial beers, if you develop a brewer's palate, will actually surprise you and actually taste more complex than you think they would, if you let down your "beersnob guard." :D

I love this story that Forrest the owner of Austin Homebrew told... kinda puts the whole a$$hat beer snobery thing in perspective.

I had a snob of an employee try a beer he thought was mine. He really liked it and even commented on specific things that he liked. He told me it was very good and he wouldn't change the recipe. When I told him it was Budweiser American Ale, he told me "I wish I would have known that first, I am not supposed to like that beer."

That's the best thing about beer. You like what you like as long as you let yourself. I personally think Bluemoon is too sweet and too much citrus.

I should also mention that I am not a fan of the style. I try the wits in samplers at brewpubs and I like them every once in a while, but I rarely convince myself to order a pint. To each his own I guess.

Has nothing to do with my ass hat beer snobbery revvy. I am not educated enough to be a snob. I like what I like, and didn't like either of these.

Blue moon can kiss it, but I loves me a XX lager (green). Brings me back to my two weeks on the beach in Sayulita last winter. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............................

Ive actually never even seen Blue Moon up here In Canada, sounds kinda interesting. as far as Dos Equis goes Some people may not qualify it as BMC, but I find it tastes exactly the same as alot of that BMC stuff.

that being said I will still drink it in a pinch without much complaint. still beer, but would never buy it. dont care for the premium prices for a half decent product at all.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's made by Coors.

You just said you'[ve never seen in it there and that it sounds intersting (implying you've not had it) then talk about how it tastes like all other BMC products...?

Yes, it's made by Molson Coors

I think that this is often the case in both directions. A good homebrew served to a 'craft BMC' drinker will often suprise them and a good BMC Craft will often suprise them but ONLY if they are willing to let the snob guard down (or are tricked into it by not telling them what it is).

That Bud American Ale isn't bad. I was surprised by it-- I thought it would be completely undrinkable.

Dos Equis is good in the right context, which is a cheap texmex restaurant.

Try this then:

Take the Dos Equis... pour over a big goblet that you filled with ice cubes, and salted the rim (like a margarita)... then add a couple splashes of hot sauce, Worcester sauce and lime juice.

Michelada = great summer time backyard - or sitting on a beach drink!

I like Blue Moon, Dos Equis, and Bud American Ale just fine. None of them are favorites, but any of them are completely drinkable. Dos Equis is readily available on tap around here, and I often order it with a meal. Funny thing about Blue Moon - I find that if you follow the serving suggestion and put an orange slice in it, the flavor gets completely stripped from the beer (and it didn't have much in the first place!). Don't fruit the beer.

Me too, I was one of the first on here to try some and I was pleasantly surprised by it. And I liked the bottles so much I drank a case worth of it to have some.

It's maltier than I thought they were capable of.

But it's the same with Blue moon, I didn't expect to like it, and was just as surprised. But I can't say the same thing about the Sam Adam's version of the style. I found that pretty crappy.

I personally like corn adjuncted lagers like, PBR, or Labatts, way over rice adjuncted lagers like budweiser, or saphoro. And I think many folks, though they may not quite understand why, have a preference for one or the other. We've talked about this before, rice adjuncted lagers produce dry, crisp beers, while corn adjuncted beers tend to be more creamy...hence the style know as a cream ale.

I realized that I don't hate ALL BMC, just, it seems "Bud" type products. So trying various "Lagers" including those from microbreweries, I made a list of the ones I hated and the ones that were ok; trying to figure out why I liked some and not the others. Finding out that I like corn adjuncted lagers and not rice ones like sapporo and bud.

Then I discovered cream ales and really like them. Of course they are usually corn adjuncted ales. I even brewed my cream ale recipe as a lager and it ended up tasting like many commercial micro-lagers that I liked, that had were full bodied.

I'm always looking for a beer that I can at least drink and not want to vomit if I'm at a sporting event or sports bar, or non brewpub. A lot of the bars I go to after hockey games in town carry either PBR or Labatts so those have become my goto beers in those situations. I've noticed with labatts that if you let it warm up a bit, the "corniness" comes out nicely (as opposed to bud products that taste horrendous when warmed up.)

In my fridge right now, are a 6 pack of Sierre Nevada torpedos, and a 6 pack of the Stroh's re-release from the company that re-released PBR and Schlitz, which I also enjoy.

I bought a case of Kirkland beer yesterday based on some comments that it wasn't all bad. I figured what the hell, at 12 a case it can't hurt to try it.

Blue Moon is made by the Molson Coors Brewing Company, so it IS BMC. It's not bad tho...not a true wit, but a decent beer. In Canada, it is called "Rickard's White", so you may want to check for that, Pivot.

Dos Equis I usually like, but I tried it in MN and it was terrible. I blame storage conditions.

American Light Lagers can be made into great beers. I like a good PBR, Red Stripe, Schlitz, Session or homebrewed American Light.

I just made a cream ale that has a pound of corn adjunct...it couldn't be made without it, so light a crisp. I can't wait for it to finish.

I don't care for Blue Moon not really a fan of wits good or bad.

As for Dos Equis I like it espcially with mexican food and if you don't the you can " stay thirsty my friend"

Anyone else think revvy looks like the most interesting man alive?

I'll drink Blue Moon if nothing else better is available. I kind of like it in small doses and without the slice of orange. I find it very sweet though.

I have no qualms about ordering a Corona - with lime - in a Mexican restaurant. When in Rome...
