last night my dog couldnt open her jaw but a hlaf inch. i google & figured it was a degerative disorder that many big dogs of her breeds gets. NOPE! she had a tumor on her jaw muscles. the vet says he only seen 6 in his 20 years. gave her recovery if i went for kemo, surgery, etc etc 40%. So she gonna have her final weekend at my parent house chasing rabbits & birds then on monday she gonna get put to sleep. I was crying like a girl all upset at the vets, she came over to see if i was allright. fellas I've had family dogs before but this is my first dog. this is the hardest thing i have to do. But she not in pain. my mom is cutting up food for her real small so she can eat, she can still drink. So fellas please have a drink in memory of INTEGRA.

I'm sorry to hear the news about the pooch. That sucks! My dad is a vet in WA, and I've been on both spectrums, and I tell you this, I only wish that our medical profession would respect those wishes for us humans. Look, you are giving her a hell of time, she loves you and vice versa, what you are doing is respecting her. It's a tough decision. no doubt about it. but ****, I wish someone would do that for me if I'm ever in that situation.

I can tell you behind the curtains, that animals are put down in the upmost respect. I've been there....

I honestly wish you the best of luck.

You are doing the right thing. She will love you and love the time that she has to play this weekend. I'd hoist a pint, but it's now Saturday morning and I have chores to do yet. I'll lift one up in a bit when I hopefully bottle that beer for a friend.

Been through this myself. Our first bulldog was not even 2 when we put him down. The vet gave us the invasive surgery, then chemo route, or we could put him down. We kept him with us for 5 more happy months. He was extremely sick in the end and it was the most gut wrenching decision to ever make but we knew it was time and I think he did too. I cried like a baby. Didn't care who saw. I loved that dog.

Hoisting one to you and yours tonight. You won't ever forget but you will grow with it in the end. Remember the good times. The stupid times when they made you smile. Even the angry times when they made you mad. Dogs have an uncanny ability of taking up a place in our hearts that only a dog can. They are a joy and a curse all at once. Don't harden your heart after this. Someday you will feel back to normal. Then you can invite another silly canine in to start the process all over.

On a side note since putting our first down I am all about rescue dogs. Rescued our bulldog a year and a half ago. Easiest way to make a dogs life better.

I don't even know you and I almost just shed a tear. I feel for you amigo and all I can say is that you are doing the right thing. There is nothing worse than not knowing if she is upset or not. Take a month and get a puppy. It will help immensely and you will realize the similarities and start getting some reincarnation feelings. I will drink one for you guys!

Feb. 28, 2009, my chocolate lab Buck, of 14 years had to be put down. That was the longest drive of my life. I was very embarrassed, however I still cried like a baby. Best dog ever and he will not be replaced. It was that hard. Matter of fact, I'm choked up now so I will have several beers to your loving pet. Maybe she'll find Buck and they will play together. He loved sticks and heavy rocks.

Didn't see this thread until just now. I feel for you. I really think it's harder to lose a dog than a relative. I'm going to the kegerator to pull a pint of bock in memory of Integra right now. That's an awesome name for a dog, BTW.

I feel your pain brother and I hope you get through this tough time. We recently got a new mini-doxie puppy and had her for only 9 days. One night we came home and she was hyperventilating. She had a genetic defect and had an EXTREMELY enlarged heart. After a trip to the emergency vet at 2am we had to put her down too. Surgery and a specialist would have been over 3k and there was no guarantees of prolonged life.
