My system produces higher efficiency than the recipes I use. For example, a recipe stated an OG of 1.054 and my OG was 1.064. Do I reduce the base malt or all of the grain to hit my target gravity? Does anyone have any general guidelines for reducing the malt bill to hit the correct OG? Thanks.

Give beersmith or promash a try, type in your recipe and adjust it from there.
Both programs have free trails.

The general guideline I use is to lower the amount of grains in porportion to the grains used in the original. So if a crystal malt is 10% of the total grist I would lower the amount while keeping the 10% the same. Using software like beersmith is an easy way to adjust the recipes for your efficency.

I heard Jamil say in one of his shows that when dialing in efficiency, just adjust your base malt. However, if converting a recipe to a different volume then to adjust the percentages accordingly.
