I have this jar a friend gave me labeled"
Eden Organic Traditional Barley Malt Syrup"
the ingredients couldn't be easier.
Organic sprouted barley, water.

But can I brew with it?
Or has anybody else brew with it?

starters or to go along with what I have left of dry extract. sort of a everything but... kinda beer. the batch that uses anything I have left.

I don't really see a problem with it, but just to be safe, I'd smell/taste it on its own for freshness. If you felt like getting nerdy...

You could also mix it with a gallon of water (if its a 16 oz jar, proportionally less water for smaller jars) and test it with your hydrometer. If its in the mid 1030's somewhere just consider it malt extract. Lastly you take a few drops of the same mixture to a smear of iodaphor on a white surface. If the iodaphor turns black/purple, theres some unconverted starch in there. If it says a yellow-brown, it is fully converted to sugar.

Good luck with your beer!
