Hello all, I am making an Arrogant Bastard CLone that I got from Austins. It came with 2 viles of White Labs because the starting gravity is high. My question is should I just through both viles into my 1 litre starter or what? I have never used two packages before. Thanks!!!

You'd need at least a two-liter starter to get any reproduction. A one-liter starter won't do anything but wake the yeast up.

Ok because I droke one of my flasks last week and don't have a replacement yet. I could make a 1 litre starter with one vile and just pitch it and the unopened vile at the same time. If it was not for my clumsyness I would still have my other flask. :)

You know I was thinking about that. I am just wondering how to seal the top. My stoppers are a bit big and I thought of just covering them with plastic wrap but they will need to be vented some how???

I just use some sanitized foil over the top of the flask and/or the growlers when I make a starter. That works great.

I thought 1L starters were standard with 2L preferred. I have never heard that you will get no reproduction with only 1L. Can anyone confirm? I used my stirplate for the first time with one liter and seemed to have reproduction.

Six ounces will be good for two liters. Cups are a meaningless measurement for DME.

Agreed. a) dme compacts or loosens and is even affected by humidity. One man's "cup" is not another mans. And b) weight is just so much easier because impact on gravity is given using weight...points per pound per gallon.

for dme, ppg = 44.
