Honest thoughts and questions:

Who poured?
I wish BA Hi Fi b1 was fresh in this competition. That beer is a husk.
Amidst the drunkenness while drinking Straightjacket, did you think it was Great or Sucaba?
I would have been interested to see how Wooden Hell would have ranked blind.

the initial plan was to have the pourer change after every 4 bottles. ultimately i ended up pouring, if you wanted to be a dipshit you could be like "ok it is in a 22oz bottle, lets try and figure it out which of the 15 bombers this beer could be" but with 8 people, one ******* with an assumption couldn't really swing things too heavily. If that was gonna occur I figured it would have been to drive up Great if anything. but that clearly didn't happen.

people seemed to care more about actually drinking the beer than trying to guess which one each one was, particularly since many people had not had a vast majority of the list.

nobody guessed it was straight jacket except for me. but i also guessed old nuptial was straight jacket and thought MOAS was sucaba and blendlicious was king henry. guessing a beer correctly is incredible difficult.
even then, guessing a beer correctly was very hard, even if you saw the format size. the only other ones that were obvious were the 2000 ba leviathan (due to oxy) and deal with the devil (not due to the corked bottle, there were a few of those, but due to the massive heft and heat at 17.3% abv, it stuck out completely.)

Not surprised KH is that high, surprised Great is that low. KH has always been amazing. Chicago walers are all "brobro it's faded, **** that ****". Faded or not it's still tigole bitties in your face.

so true. second best beer i've ever had, personally (first is lente).

I too was shocked by the Great. I thought it was going to be top 3 or outright win.

It was the 2013 bottle.

IT'S TOTALLY FADED BRO. Actually I had one last night, seems the same as fresh. I've had 4 King Henry's, shared 3 and Intihar'd 1. Generic "******* awesome" is my review of each one. Now to find some Straight Jacket it seems...

As for Great, I believe '05 and '09 were aged in 2nd use Jack Daniels barrels. '13 was in 3rd use Heaven Hill. 2nd use was Odin's Raven. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also surprised how high BCBBW is on the list. I like the stuff, bought a ton of it since it made it here to San Diego. I have never blind tasted it against Great but I think Great is a much better BW. You've inspired me to do a blind tasting of some stuff. Nothing as liver failure inducing as your tasting, but something fun =)

Which Great was it btw? '09 or '13? Much different barrel treatments there.
I've sampled at least 47 bottles of KH over the last 3 years. Its nowhere near what it was fresh. And no amount of broing will bring it back.

Results are invalid. No Sebago BB Barleywine

/I'll show myself out
Also no BANE, which really surprised me. That might be my favorite BABW. I think it came in first in the smaller and less interesting blind barleywine tasting we did out here a few years ago.

The recent batches of bane sucked ****

At a certain point it's like, how many babw am I supposed to include before I just ******* die?

Maybe that's what the public demands.

It's March so you need a 64 beer bracket. Every other beer website does it, so why not you too? Need excuses besides the whole "I'll die" thing.

Really? It's been a while since I've had it, so that sucks. Oh well.

And yes. You're like Britney Spears in that episode of South Park.

Yea after batch 1 it fell off. I domed a B1 2 years ago and it blew my mind off...thought it was right up there with KH and others in that realm.
