What happened to him in the picture?

scar is from surgery, he ruptured a disk and we never figured out how.

awesome neurosurgeons at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech patched him up good, at 1/3 the cost the local neurosurgeons were asking.

without them, he wouldn't be the pain in our asses he is today and we are forever grateful for every day we have with him

My shepherd had surgery on Wednesday to prevent hip dysplasia.

The vet said keep him calm with no running or jumping for 2 weeks, a task that is nearly impossible with a 5 month old puppy.

So not only does he have to wear a no-lick collar, but he has to (mostly) live in his crate. He is pissed.

Well sorry for not updating on the pup. Don't know what he got into but we were able to bring him home the next morning. Just weird we don't use any chemicals in the backyard I burn everything unless he got bit out are some sort of big I guess wewell never know but at least he's ok now.

good to know he's okay.

After an awful, short-lived battle to a very aggressive lung cancer, we lost our 10 yo golden mix a few weeks ago. She was irreplaceable and will never be forgotten.

The house was unbearable without a pup so what else to do but adopt this mom/daughter combo: Cascade and Saaz

Sorry about your loss, but your new additions look very happy to be there!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Great pets are members of the family, and it's always difficult.

Those two look like some great new members of the family though! :)

My condolences.

I just had to put down my brew buddy this afternoon. Started internal beelding from tumors on his liver. No warning. Yesterday he was great and is normal crazy self. This morning he was slowing down and by noon could not even stand. The vet was even shocked because he was in great shape.

Thanks. It really sucks. We do get so attached to our buddies. Our other dog is wondering here he is. They were great friends.

My big guy, Spirit, had a similar issue. Although, he started losing weight a couple months before I had to put him down. The vet found masses on his liver, and said he'd probably only have 6 months. Two months later, he went out to go to the bathroom, squatted to take a dump, and collapsed. Took him to the vet, and had to put him down. He was only 7 years old. A big 120 pound Rottweiler, and two months later, on his last day, he was barely 90.

That was the worst day of my life. I know what you're going through.

Sorry to hear man, that really sucks :(

Sorry for your loss, it's so hard when it's that sudden. I lost mine last Nov after having a brain tumor. Fine one day, gone the next. Very hard, still brings tears.

So sorry to hear about this beergolf. Man, it just isn't fair.

Been there with our guy, Buddy. In fact, I did a double take on your picture since he looked so similar. Congestive heart failure. Up to the end he loved, loved, loved to play ball and that's just what we did. Ultimately his breathing was just so labored and his heart so oversized that it was time... that's the hardest decision to make because you know they trust you unconditionally and a little piece of you feels guilty, like you've let them down. My entire family was out of town when the vet said it was time so my wife made me promise that my face and voice would be his last memory as he went under.

Even typing this turns me into a blubbering mess... I miss him. RIP.

Too late for the warning to be any good, but for all those who have neighbors with amateur fireworks fetishes...clean your yard of their debris. Then a day or two later after a heavy wind storm, clean it again from all the stuff that blew off your roof.

I was woken by my youngest and smallest puking (a small amount of) blood this morning. Took him into the vet and after check everything else told me it was probably a small ulcer caused by ingestion of gunpowder residue. If so, this was the fifth case she had seen in the last few days. Luckily the cure is pretty straight forward...puppy pepto squirted down his throat twice a day.

I spent an hour cleaning the yard Sunday morning but never thought to do it again last night after a storm blew through. I have no doubt that was the cause.

Nyla is our 12 year old Border Collie (50%) Australian Cattle Dog (25%) & Australian Shepard (25%) mix!

Bella is our Schnauzer (75%) Yorkie (25%) mix. She just had her ears and face licked by Nyla in this pic!

We have had them since they both were puppies!

My new brew buddy... He ha s two speeds. On and off. Fun pup.

After having to put my other one down a couple of weeks ago the house was lonely with only one dog.

Unless you are home, or someone is home, at least 18 hours a day...you will find he needs a friend. I am a firm believer that that lone pups tend to be more likely to have various anxiety issues unless their pack of humans are regularly available.

My rule is three because I tend to adopt seniors and one could go for the big sleep at any time. I tend to let the "alpha" do a lot of the training for the new pup. Granted, with my new Saint Bernard, not working so well but 70% of the time it does.

Sorry for your loss. I had to put down one of our hardcore rescues a while back. She had go from peeing on me every time I approached to not leaving my side over the 9 years we had her. Finally the brain damage from the cracked skull got the best of her as she aged. To protect the pack she had to be put down.

That is why I got him. My other dog was getting lonely and yes they do better with at least one other companion. Now my other dog had to beat him up a few time to let him know that she is the queen of the house, but they are getting along great.

Russells are notorious for separation anxiety. They bond with their humans on an extremely deep level. They also don't take crap from dogs four times their size, so watch out when he has become adjusted to the new home.
