Am I the only one who thought they noticed a hint of rudeness from their original emails? And now the want to blame the OP for his outburst?

That's like calling the pitch black of utter nothingness a deep shade of grey...

Sorry. I'm just depressed because I learned today that my dogs are both overweight and will likely live a miserable short life because I feed them too much crappy food. Not sure how I'll ever get over it.

All they really want is a hug.

Oh dear GOD. Go to a breeder and you adopt a basketcase and dog. Go to a Pet Shop, and you risk adopting a walking carcass.

WTF?

I am considering a Boxer in teh near future.

I wouldn't worry too much about the diet. They're dogs. They'll happily eat cat **** if they get a chance...;)

oh man, talk about a walking veterinary bill....Boxers seem to be prone to just about any/every health issue out there.

I dunno man, been reading about a variety of dogs and they all seem to be prone to a long list of conditions that spell expensive. But have also read stories about folks who have old dogs that have never had issues.

Almost all the dog breeders I've met are weridos. Usually their clients are as well though so it completes the full circle.

One thought just occurred to me. IF they're AKC registered, and gave you papers with the dog, look carefully at them. There is a place to check whether "registered ownership" of the dog is transferred to the new owners, or if the breeder retains ownership. I think it mainly has to do with breeding rights and such, but might be worth checking on.

I LOL'd-- because both my dogs do just that.

I recently cut a 6" hole in the top of a sterilite tub, and am using that for a sh!tbox, because my dogs kept eating out of the one that had the door in the front of it.

Purebreed dogs have any increased incidence of health problems because they are purebreed. Smaller genetic pool and all that. You take the good with the bad when buying a purebreed. It just happens Boxers tend to have more health problems than most purebreeds (or so it seems).

Best advice I think is to seek out a breeder who actually knows what they are doing with regards to mating (and pay the big bucks associated with that level of dog). I don't think most breeders spend much time worrying about this.

If you don't want to go that route, rescue yourself a mutt and be done with it.

Yeah. I've read about that. I was just saying that if you google lists on healthiest dogs and unhealthiest dogs you'll see a lot of the same breeds on both.

At least I did.

Haha thanks for posting their replies brian. They are defintely freaks and it gave me another good chuckle. It does sound like they cant get past the fact that the dog is not theirs anymore. And fwiw, i thought the dog looked great. I have 2 rotts i can post pics of. I promise one is overweight and the other is the size of a horse. Purina dog chow. They love it. Have since they came home. The fat lazy one is 4 and the horse turns 1 on monday. Not only will he get dog chow on his b-day, he will get a beer too. Hell he may even get a hot dog or hamburger if i light the grill that night. I usually throw a couple extra on and give them to the dogs as treats. They are both in fine health and i wouldnt change anything i have done to either one of them. They are the two best dogs i have ever owned. And the best part is that they are mine. Not the original owner and i can do and feed them whatever i want to! ;)

Gila, my brew buddy had a boxer that died last year. He was about 11 years old. Awesome dog. Ear infections were the only problem he ever had. My buddy just got a new boxer a few weeks ago. He cropped the ears on this one to try to avoid some of the ear issues. He is from your part of the country i can get you in touch with him if you are interested. He visits his folks every couple months and would not be far from you.

Damn I'm a horrible dog owner. I supplement my dogs 5 star dog food with cat crap and sparrows.

Adoption programs can be equally as crazy. The group I adopted my dog from had a 2 hour discussion with me about the commitment of dog ownership, asked me about my financial situation and actually sent someone out to see my property before they would allow me to adopt. This was after i told them i lived on 2 acres, entirely fenced, and had a pool for him to cool off in. They still had to come check to make sure he had enough roaming room. He goes outside, pisses on the same bush, barks at the coyotes if they're out there, then comes right back inside. My other dog, a pure breed Newfie, was bought from a breeder. When I showed up to his house he said to me, "She's gonna get huge, eat a ton and will need to be brushed everyday. Can you handle it?" I said no problem and we made a deal.

so do fat kitties

My friend has a boxer that just had his third surgery, before his first birthday. But I think they were all blockages from eating toys; it's possible to avoid that issue.

I got insurance for my dog because I knew I'd never be able to cough up a few grand+ if he ever needed surgery or expensive meds. He eats some very high end food, hopefully it will keep him as healthy as possible.

My dog basically refused all of the "expensive" foods I tried on him. He's finally settled on literally the cheapest food I could find. I tried it on a whim, the store brand at Stop and Shop. He finishes his entire bowl in one shot now, compared to over the span of two days sometimes when I was feeding him the "better" foods.

I have a lab. I buy good food for him, but he'll eat anything. I mean, anything. So we try to keep stuff out of his reach but it's a losing battle. A couple of years ago he had colitis and I took him to the vet. She put him on some meds, and a canned pumpkin/yogurt/rice diet until his issues resolved.

He LOVED the pumpkin yogurt combo so much that I had to try it. It was great- like pumpkin flan. :D

Finally, he passed what was bothering him. A small rock.

Apparently the rock tasted good, too. :D I did not try it.

Anyway, I forgot what the point was. But that is a darn nice looking dog! :drunk:

Saw a show where a dog had a stomach full of rocks. He was eating them because the owner was dumping his BBq grease on them
