A simple question. I came upon this website while bored and the prices seem too good to be true. Knowing very little about barrels, I'm not sure if these would be good for brewing. But I'm only 2.5 hours from this shop, and if this website is legit, I'd probably have to buy one. If this company and these barrels are reputable, should I get an A or a B barrel? I would only be using this for sours, if that helps.

Never heard of the place, but it looks decent. I've never bought barrels, but $129 is a lil pricy to me. The guys I worked with at Batavia Ford plant used to go to the distilleries in Cinci & buy the barrels from them a heck of a lot cheaper than that.

Can u call a local distillery? Some whiskey soaked barrels would make yummy beer. Some small distilleries might even make small barrel batches. Which would be great to make 5-10 gallon batches.

Maybe someone can verify but distilleries can only use a barrel "X" number of times. So they go through them fairly fast. I figure they be happy yo make a small profit from them.

I know the local distillery here sells them. The local homebrew shops sell them for outrageous prices.

Seems legit! Cheapest barrels (used) I found in the bay area are 200+ and new ones go for 500+.. I would get none to minimal rust because it seems like the barrels would be newer with more bourbon accents? Not sure.

If you're only 2.5 hours out you might want to make a road trip to some local breweries by the shop. Shipping might be an arm and a leg.

I actually prefer a wine barrel, which are harder to come by around here. I contacted two local wineries and they wouldn't sell directly to me. This seems a lot easier, assuming the price is right.

Although the company is legit, I don't think that you would want to brew in an old crusty barrel, these are 53 gallons, you would be aging a ton of beer.

I purchased a used 5 gallon whiskey barrel that was used once, it was from Balcones in TX. and it was clean, I paid $89.00 for it.

I've aged one 5 gallon batch of Kentucky Bourbon barrel ale in it, and another will be transferred to the barrel within the next two days.

If you are looking for a 20 or 23 liter wine barrel, contact Vadai, they are known world wide, I have a few of their barrels for my wine, great prices, great service, and a great product!
