Hi beersters,

I just brewed my first batch yesterday and this morning I woke up and I saw that :

Right now as I'm typing, there is no activity in the carboy. No bubbling or anything. I'm wondering if my yeast just went bad, grew some nasties and went dead.

I used Danstar - Munich Wheat (the only thing I had on hand)

Is it infected, is it worth waiting or should I just throw that in the sink?

Thank you.

100% normal. The dark brown is probably small pieces of grain that made it into the fermentor. Take good care of it.

What you're seeing is definitely not an infection, one day after you brewed. It's either your yeast working or just some residual foam from aerating (probably just the yeast working). Just looks like a normal krausen to me.

Wow thank you for that FAST response. I'm consistently monitoring the temperature of the carboy. I was looking to install a baby monitor to make sure the thing is all fine and dandy. As it's my first batch, I'm very worried and excited ! I promised my friends a bottle and I really hope it will be possible.

On a side note : Krausen sounds funny :p

Not as funny as trub.

I checked the webcam, looks good from here; I put a cheapo walmart thermometer next to the carboy when I'm fermenting at ambient temperature so I at least know what the air temperature is.

I think TorontoBrewery screwed up my order because I ordered a stick-on thermometer but I never received it... No big deal it's 2.99$ I'll order another one next time.
