Does dry malt need to be boiled when using kits that need no boiling?

The Cooper's extract cans are said to be "pre-cooked" and dont need boiling in a pot, just added to boiling water in the fermenter and stirred. I have the wheat kit with light dry malt and the instructions are the same - ie. dump it into the boiling water with extract in the fermenter. I'm going to be adding 2lbs of Briess Wheat DME and just want to make sure it's ok to add it the same way.

I boil it for the hour then cool it and pitch. But im in cold ass Utah and was told that it needed to boil or it would carmelize due to this places altitude. Dont know it thats true or not. An hour might be overkill but I like the smell when it boils plus more time to enjoy my home brews
 
K, I think I'll go with boiling the Wheat and Light Dry DME for 10 minutes or so. Since I have to add boiling water anyway I guess why the heck not? heh :)

Boiling for 10 minutes will sanitize the water and the extract and help prevent bad germs from ruining your beer.
