Just curious to see how many, if any, do this on a regular basis. For example, you always use X% pale and Y% pils as you base for standard ales, or X% US, Y% marris otter. I know many breweries use similar fomulas for their base and am just wondering if anyone out here does too. For the record, I don't. I certainly have blended bases for certain brews, but not on a regular basis.

I don't as a standard. I all depends on what I am looking for in the finished product. I try to not be heavy handed on the specialty grains for flavoring or color. If I can achieve the color profile I am looking for by using only base malts, and still keep the flavor profile I want, then I will always go that direction first.
