Do Not Drink Alcohol While Taking This Medication

So for the foreseeable future, I will be on a medication that I should not be drinking on.

It's not like alcohol will make my liver or some other organ explode inside me but apparently booze reverses/negates the meds. So either have a beer or feel better.

*sigh* so bummed...

Yeah its basically unrealistic that I will totally give it up, I'll just have to get fancier beer for special occasions

Alcohol can affect the way the liver process certain other chemicals. It might negate the affects, or it might produce toxins. I'd abstain just to be sure.

I'd find a second opinion. then I'd find a third and fourth.

Your health is more important than a beer every now and again. Just get a jar and add what you would be spending on beer to it for the duration. Then, when you are allowed to drink again, buy some of those expensive bottles you wouldn't have bought otherwise. And it gives you some time to establish a nice pipeline and start some long fermenting beers like something that needs lagering if you can time when you may come off them or sours or barleywines.

Re-reading the original post says foreseeable future which sounds like it is open-ended. Do not risk your health over alcohol. It may suck, but seriously, talk/work with your doctor, find out if this is just a blanket statement and if you can occasionally have a drink and all be okay. Listen to your doctor though. I am not an expert but I have stayed in a holiday inn before.

I would definitely talk to your doctor. Unless "Russian Roulette" is a game you enjoy.

A guy I know got put on Anabuse (actually because of his drinking problem). Most people, if you drink while on it, it makes you violently ill. He didn't get sick, though. It killed him.


Sometimes the "do not consume alcohol" warning is precautionary. Sometimes it's because of minor side effects. And sometimes it's a serious fvcking warning.


Talk to your doctor, not a bunch of internet M.D.'s.
