Had a zymurgist create a smuttynose IPA extract clone and one of the ingredients was Biscuit Malt grain for steeping. He said I didn't have to crush the Biscuit but they look like whole grains.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

HAVE to? Gee, I don't really know.

But I also don't know why you wouldn't crush it.

It's an extract brew, and I asked him twice if I needed to crush it before steeping. Not sure what to do.

How much did he give you? Maybe he gave you SO much that you'll get the flavor without crushing it, but I doubt it.

If we're talking a small steeping amount, I would put it in a gallon Ziploc freezer bag and crush it with a rolling pin.

Is there ever a reason you don't have to crush malt? I'm not being a smart*** here, I'm honestly asking. I've never heard of one.

Other than "you're not using it," that is.
