I started using DME for bottle conditioning and it seems to take quite a bit longer to carbonate than table sugar. Sometimes I lose hope that it will ever carbonate at all. I have a Weissen Dopplebock that has been in the bottle a month and still not where it should be.

Does higher gravity ales need a boost of yeast for bottling?

Nope. They just need more time. Sometimes a lot more time. Leave that one alone at room temp for another month or two before taking another bottle, fridging it 3+ days and then sampling.
