DIY hop spider, using reclaimed filter

I love to DIY and my neighbor was tossing what appears to be a large/tall water filter. My only question is: I can fill this with hops/etc and just suspend in the boil, or would you maybe wrap or ziptie it with cheesecloth or something? It appears to be perfect for my test batch kettle which is pretty big.

No, I didn't I just took it from the end of his driveway but I don't know what it is actually, maybe It just goes back where it came from.

Only question: why would you burn your mouth and tongue? I never blow into an outlet port. I hook up my propane tank and shoot a blast up the outlet. This dislodges the debris and the propane acts as a solvent for better alpha acid extraction. It all blows off in primary. Just dont smoke near the fermenter. Would work really well with separating fats from your cupcake stout as well.

Of course you may want to be sure that the plastic can be safely boiled without leaching into your brew.

I have the beta admin app that lets me see source dataon all posts written. Even edits. Just have to sort through headers, metadata and scripts, but not too hard once you get used to it.

Sorry yes I deleted most of it, so fart I haven't identified exactly what type of filter this is, I took it from my neighbor's driveway. Trash but he's a police officer. But if you saw it the problem before I deleted it was debris getting stuck in the valve that I was blowing out. If you also saw the picture let me know if it looked reasonable for hops spider. I'm in the truck using text to speech, it's very difficult, probably can't do much of this but I'll be in rapid city with my plumber eh woah that was a close one. Ok. And we'll find out for sure, I have a printout for him. Thanks.

Actually yes. Not voluntarily though, and does not occur as frequently as it used too.

And back on topic... no good for hop spider. Looks to be made of pvc. Cannot withstand the heat of the boil and may leach off flavors into your beer.

If it isn’t a water filter no I won’t use it. My buddy plumber confirms it’s something different, nevermind. This was intended for test batches anyway, I have a professional system that wont experience problems with clog. Just wanted to share a DIY project but I think this won’t be happening. Lesson learned don’t just go pulling parts from your neighbors trash without knowing exactly what it is. Moving on now. Not every idea is going to be good as I take this journey. Success comes with obstacles I agree, we overcome them.

I’m in a motel in rapid city yes. I know you always want pictures of everything, I have pictures I will post them sometime and you will all be shocked and embarrassed and I cannot wait to close your mouths when you see what’s happening back home. When the licenses go through etc that’s when the snowball is made and if the movie has my name in it, you will all come back on here to apologize. Not everything can happen on jay jay time, I am very busy.
