How well does it controller with the temp probe stuck to the outside? Which controller did you choose?I ordered from that site. Easiest dyi project I've done. I use mine on Better Bottles. I measured the circumference and order 75% of that length. I place my temp probe centered in the gap of the heat strip.
You held it at 100F using the flexwatt and an STC-1000? You wrapped the flexwatt around the fermenter directly, right? Do you think it will work the same if it's just lining the inside of the chamber of a small mini-fridge? I'm trying to do the same thing (sour worting) for some brews. I have it installed in my ferm chamber but it doesn't seem to be heating much/at all...I have held a five gallon Better Bottle at 100F with the eBay Temp Controller
Yup, I got it working. Works GREAT so far! That's exactly what I plan on using my FlexWatt for (souring at 100F and working saisons with 3724). I'm REALLY impressed with the heat that the 12" tape puts off. I bought 4 feet from ReptileBasics.com and trimmed it down to about ~3.4 feet to fit the back and side walls of my mini-fridge.USMCPayne, sounds like you have your system working. I love the flexwatt. I use it for lactic fermentations at 100F, saisons in the 80s, and heating up wort if I chilled it too far below pitching temp.
I always wrap a sweat shirt around the fermentor (either a corny or better bottle). I leave the fermentor sitting on floor.
