well the oatmeal cream stout went well. tasted very nice. like frosted mini wheats. we'll see how it tastes after fermentation. after we got our 6.5 gallons, we decided to give it another 30 min rest and sparge again to get 6.5 more. worked out pretty nicely. the second batch, or "oatmeal cream stout light" if you will, actually had a OG of 1.036. which in my opinion isnt that bad for a second sparge.
 
Sounds like you didn't sparge enough on the first runnins. What was the OG of the first batch? Must have been pretty high already to stop with all that good stuff left behind....

Personally, I sparge until the wort coming out tastes like un-sweetened tea...

the OG on the first batch was 1.050

and the second batch still tasted nice and sweet.
