Dead yeast, can my wort wait?

Hey guys, first post here, first batch of beer in the making, using hopped extract (Brewferm).

So I started making the wort from the extract, following the instructions partially but also using some recommendations/tips from howtobrew.com

Not long before my wort was ready for yeast pitching, I rehydrated the yeast using boiled water, cooled to about 40 degrees Celsius. I let it sit for 20min and then added some boiled/warm water including some wort and some dextrose to the now rehydrated yeast.

More than 30-45 minutes later, no real sign of activity. I guess the yeast is dead right? FYI: it's the yeast that is provided with the malt extract. I was told that the one from Brewfwrm was actually pretty good quality and didn't need to get some extra one.

Now my wort is in the fermentor bucket. With no yeast at all. Can I wait for tomorrow to go buy some yeast and pitch it then or is my wort done for? :/

Also should I reheat the wort a bit before pitching?

Any hint/tips will be greatly welcome

Thanks

O.

Well it sounds like you killed your yeast with too high of temps... You should only pitch at 60-70F. Go ahead and pitch it, take a gravity reading, and if in 3 days the gravity doesn't drop then re-pitch.

Thanks for the infos

As for what i was expecting, taken from
http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter6-5.html:

For best results, re-hydrate 2 packets of dry yeast in warm water (95-105°F) and then proof the yeast by adding some sugar to see if they are still alive after de-hydration and storage.

If it's not showing signs of life (churning, foaming) after a half hour, your yeast may be too old or dead.

So I guess that I should have seen "something" happening no?

Is 30-40 Celsius (which is near the 95-105F stated above) really too hot?

I guess I'll wait and go get somenyeast tomorrow. What had me worried is that I didn't know if the wort could wait without yeast or something

Use the yeast.. it will be ok. 40C doesn't kill dry yeast. In fact it's probably in the recommended range for rehydration. Just use it.. If nothing happens in 3 days then start to worry.. I mean... then get more yeast and RDWHAHB

Thanks for the infos!
(I get "RDWHAHB", but "RDWHASBB"? :p)

I was expecting at least some activity, as according to Palmer, about 30min should be enough to tell if the yeast is good or not.

I'll pitch it then, and see how it goes tomorrow. I guess that if I see no activity after 16+ hours I'll go buy some more yeast in case it won't fly off.

Thanks

Relax don't worry have a store bought brew :D

And I believe the 30 minutes palmer talks about has to so with yeast health in a starter, not fermentation taking off

I guess it would make sense.
Well we'll see how it turns out anyways.

Also, I got myself a good Pauwel Kwak to relax ;)
