So my father is going to germany for three weeks. Any suggestions on something authentic and beer related that i could ask him to pickup for me? keep in mind that i dont want him running all over the country to find something for me. I was thinking some cool beer steins or glasses.

Any thoughts?

A real mass mug from the Hofbrauhaus is a cool souvenir. I picked one up myself when I was there. Just finished drinking a yummy munich helles out of it, actually.

Lederhosen. So you look authentic when attending Oktoberfest. Otherwise steins are always good.

A suitcase full of local brews that aren't available in the US; Tucher brau & Patrzier brau come to mind from the Nurnberg area. Not really beer related, but a nice cuckoo clock. Some of those grey clay mugs/steins would be nice too. Regards, GF.

What I found very interesting about beer in Germany is that every region not only has their own specialty beer but they have their own way of serving it.

For example in southern Germany like in munich you have the huge beer steins. In another region it is a tall skinnier glass and in another it is a short skinny glass that would hold about 1/3 of our serving of beer. This was the region I was mostly in and the beer was Kolch. This was in Cologne.

I brought back a traditional beer stein (with the cover on it) and one of the real small skinny short glasses as a souvenir.

The beer steins come in a wide range of "fanciness" ... The fancier, the more expensive they are.

Everyone needs a beer stein

My parents got me a stein a couple years ago when they went to Germany. Its real small though, just fits 12 oz. And yeah I think they are pretty expensive too. My parents said it was like 30 euros I think.
