After enjoying numerous juicy NEIPAs that showcase tropical, citrus, or berry fruit flavors, I was wondering if anyone ever tried to make a banana-flavored IPA before? I know IPAs get their primary flavors from the hops, and banana typically is a product of certain yeasts, so I could barking up the wrong tree, but I feel like there has to be a way to do it, as long as the banana part doesn't clash with the hop flavors. Any thoughts on this? Recipe ideas? Has it actually been done before and I didn't think of anything new? I saw someone online made something similar using actual bananas as the primary fermentable, but I'm an extract brewer so I'm not sure how feasible that would be for me.

^^^ what he said...

You could also probably do a blended yeast to potentially merge a typical IPA style yeast strain with the Hefe...so you still get the banana notes from it.
