Been looking around for a cotton candy wine recipe with no luck. Anybody have ideas?

I saw a grape variety at Wegman's in Virginia that was called Cotton Candy, but they were $5.99/lbs. I wanted to buy some to try, but too much for my cheap ass. I have friend's in Hawaii who mentioned trying them and they said they tasted just like cotton candy. They found them at Costco.

I am aware, hence the "maybe you can modify this recipe" comment.

I didn't read through that whole link, but the recipe on the first page gives no help in creating a cotton candy flavor. I guess with that logic "he could modify any recipe" then. I think he is trying to find what ingredients to add in order to get a cotton candy flavor. Your link does not help with that.

I'm trying to help, not criticize. I don't know his brewing level and neither do you. How about we agree to disagree and allow Weaves to do his research.

Good idea!

Let's all either try to be positive and help, or not say anything at all. Since this is a very unusual wine (at least, I've never heard of it), I'd say some research or even other ideas is helpful to the OP>

Brewing level has nothing to do with what we disagree with. The disagreement we have is with how to obtain a cotton candy flavored wine. Your user name sounds foreign, so I was unsure if you knew the difference between a candy cane and cotton candy. I don't think my original quote to you was mean, and I do not see how it could be interpreted that way.

However, I still fail to see how posting a recipe of a candy cane flavored wine is relevant to obtaining a cotton candy flavored wine. The flavors are completely different, so different ingredients would be needed. I have posted two different options to obtain a cotton candy flavor wine for the OP and hopefully he can find his end result.

I am allowing the OP to do his research and I am helping him, which is why he posted here. I am not trying to be mean and do not understand why you think posting a recipe for a candy cane recipe is relevant. I see that recipe as a really different type of wine, and do not see how the ingredients will not obtain a cotton candy flavor like the OP desires.

If I am wrong please tell me and I will eat my crow. I am trying to help the OP out, not send him in a different direction.

I don't think I have been negative. People disagree sometimes on forums. I HAVE given the OP two different options to obtain a cotton candy wine. Call me crazy, but all I was saying was the candy cane recipe was not relevant for the flavor the OP was asking about.

I would be curious what would happen if you substituted candy floss(cotton candy) sugar for the candy canes. I know flavours change during fermentation. Weaves keep this updated please.

Holy cow I didn't realize this post had so much activity lol. I do know (as stated by the first commenter) that the cotton candy grapes could be used, although this route might be expensive and hard to do out of season and I don't think I'll be able to experiment with this while they're still in season. But I wonder about the candy floss idea. Maybe adding say a strawberry floss with a light amount of strawberry juice and water?

Maybe you could alter this Candy Cane wine recipe? https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=311418

Hmmmm... while I'm not sure of the turn out, don't they make cotton candy flavored candy canes? It took me a sec to think of it but that may work. Again using the same flavor as the cane (supposing they have cotton candy candy canes in different flavors) good idea, worth some looking into! Thanks

Weaves-I really think the easiest way to make a cotton candy flavored wine would to be to create a white wine base and then add the cotton candy extract to your tasting preference. I think using actual cotton candy would be really hard to judge how much to use and when to add it (primary or secondary) to get the most flavor.

I visited my parents in Kansas awhile back and the wineries we visited had a few red wines with cotton candy flavors. I believe the grape variety was either Fredonia or Traminette. You can also contact Walkers Wine Juice, they can probably really help you create a recipe. They ship 5 gallon pails of juice for wine.

In my opinion, don't add this stuff during primary fermenting, too much flavor would be lost. If this the route to go, I would rack the wine on top of it iin the secondary. Hard part would be deciding how much cotton candy to use.

Maybe you could try several 1 gallon batches with the different ideas mentioned so far? Might help you get an idea of to get different flavors you desire.

For a one gallon batch for a plain white wine would two cans of extract for the gallon be too much or too little (a little new to winemaking)

I would do something neutral, like an apfelwein, in a gallon batch, then add the extract, backsweetening or adding Splenda. Maybe try a few different extracts, in varying quantities. Creative idea, for sure.

Alright, my gallons are all booked up til probably December (ordered a beer kit that I thought made 3 6 gallon batches turns out it was 3 2 gallon batches) once those are done I'm gonna see what I can do with this
