I generally skim foop, always wondered if this is necessary or if it'll be removed with whirlpool.

your wort is clear and chunky like that through the entire boil?

are you asking me ba-brewer? I have never really taken a sample of wort that is boiling in the kettle and examined it, I certainly have never attempted to filter it other than to add some kettle finings near the end of the boil in preparation for whirlpool and cooling.

Sorry about that, it was meant for rabeb25, I was just slow in hitting enter.

I don't usually take samples during the boil either, but I do steep hops sometime and have observed the formation of break clouds between turning off heat and dropping the hops. I don't filter either just chill and allow the wort to sit a while for the break and hops to compact then keep the clear stuff.

MSK_Chess.. was that picture you posted of the break a hido batch?
Just asking because I haven't seen that much protein floating around since before I went low oxygen. For some reason it greatly cuts down on the amount.

yes it wasn't a LODO batch. Not so much you say in a LODO, again I cannot say if I noticed a difference, wonder why it would be the case. So much to learn!

haha thanks guys, and believe me, I have racks of german beers at my house and enjoy to go out and hang around at the local restaurants. My big thing is I like to try and make these beers while I am here, also a couple from back home I cannot get from here. So if I go back to the states one day, I will be able to make the same beers I liked here. It is funny, everytime I go to a new town I go into the stores and look for beers I have not yet had and bring them back with me. Hard life right:off::off:
