That's a good one. It took me a minute to see the fun part of the idea. I was taught that "and" replaces the comma. Your example is compelling; however, if I were to say, "Joe, Bill, Kevan (fun name), Patricia and Alvin enjoyed their ice cream," it's fairly clear, I think.
