Don't want to pee on anyone's Wheaties, but the lack of a proper PRV should raise some serious red flags. Worst case scenario, the keg over-pressurizes. Remember, it's rated to 130 psi. From an engineering standpoint that means its 50% overload/fail point is around 190 psi. A regular pressure cooker has a safety release slightly above 1 bar/14.7 psi, so an unchecked over pressure to 190 psi would be much greater than an exploding pressure cooker (about 10 times greater, if not 100 times greater considering area rule).

Remember the Boston Marathon bombers? Yep, used a pressure cooker. So if its burst pressure was ~15 psi + 50% = ~22 psi, what do you suspect the blast field would be if a roughly 4x greater volume under 10x or 100x greater pressure decided to come unglued? Granted, this explanation doesn't take into account the explosive energy and the rapid chemical expansion going on inside the pressure cooker turned IED before it's breached, but this over-simplification should convince you nevertheless that Bubba, you don't even want to be in the next adjacent county to that 'bottle bomb' when it blows. High pressure fluids are not something to take casually.

Update: Success!! (?)

I started over with a second lid. Cut a new hole further from the PRV, flipped the bail, and tested with a clamp. Fits with plenty of clearance. All in all, it took less than an hour after work today to do. The obvious problem seems to be that the bail will only fit single handle kegs now.

Maybe? The added bulkhead was only $20. I already had the lid, and I consider the drill bit part of my tools budget. I spend too much there, too....

Also, the 1.5" TC stuff is so much cheaper than the 3" and 4", but knowing me, I'll end up upgrading in the future...

I just did this exact same thing. Reversing the lever was a hard problem, but I opted to cut it off, flip it around, and weld it back together on backwards. I really wish a product like this existed already with a weld, or at least a different lever style for corny keg lid modifications.

Wondering i guess you ferment on a fermentation chamber, i have the best results fermenting with a thermowell for precise temperature. I am thinking on a smart solution as using a Tilt to check remote temperature control.

Wondering i guess you ferment on a fermentation chamber, i have the best results fermenting with a thermowell for precise temperature. I am thinking on a smart solution as using a Tilt to check remote temperature control.

Yeah, ferm chamber is a temp controlled chest freezer. I haven't used a thermowell yet. I keep my temp prob strapped to a can of seltzer under a layer of reflectix.

I am loving the TC connection for my dry hopper, though!!

So it looks like the reason for reversing the bail is that there is not enough clearance to attach anything to the triclamp otherwise? I wonder if that problem could be also be solved with an extended fitting like this one I found on AliExpress. I'm planning to give it a try because I would like to fit this on a lid with a two handle keg... Hopefully it will be long enough.

Oh, that might do it for you! Even with the reversed bail, the clamp itself can still be a little tricky.

The extension has its own potential limitations, too. You want it to be tall enough to early get the clamp on, but not too tall that the bail can't flip over it.

I appreciate the feedback. I just got the lid in the mail and am waiting on the triclamp bulkhead being shipped from china. This AEB carbonation lid has the pressure release valve on the opposite side as normal. Hopefully I can drill out the side with the ball lock. That should mean that the bail will not need to flip over the triclamp. So far it looks like there should be enough space (you can see the 41mm drill bit in the second pic). I will provide an update on how this fits after the tc bulkhead arrives.

Yeah, I happened to be in the shop the month they got them in. I think it was last spring. I passed on it at the time to keep using my diy version. Might be time to try it out.
