Simple, and probably dumb question. I have a 50' copper immersion chiller, and it acts like a big slinky. I wanted to make it a bit more sturdy by using copper wire to tie down a vertical support piece of copper tubing.

Is the copper in standard electrical wire safe to use? I tried googling it, and it seems that electrical copper is very pure. I just wanted to get others' thoughts on this.

I have some 12 and 14 gauge solid wire that I stripped off the sheathing.

I have mine tied together with thin copper wire from the hardware section at my local Tru-Value. I have seen the same wire at HD as well. Its hard for me to copy and paste my pictures while I am on my phone, but I think I have a pic in my gallery if interested.

*Edit* Here it is

That's what I use to hold my IC apart. When it gets "scrunched up", I just pull it apart. I just have loops of stripped 14ga around the coils.

Using my Harbor Freight drill press (which turned out several great pine wood derby cars) I fastened a jig to help streamline some drilling. I then drilled 3/8" holes every .75", then cut 20 pieces of a 3/8" wood dowel.

I then inserted the first 2 dowels and started weaving some 8 gauge copper wire. As I moved down the jig I added more dowels. Using the resulting zig zag copper wire, I weaved it through my IC. I made 3 copper zigs and zagged them in to the IC coil. :ban:
