I know when I am brewing on a regular basis, I have no tolerance for low quality beer. When I have not brewed in a while, I have been known to down some swill.

If you order from KC or Omaha Steaks, you can use that styrofoam shipping container with a few mods with a sharp knife. That's what I did and it works great.

Something weird happened with my bottle. It was rock hard when I put it in the mini fridge. I guess it's too cold or something cause the bottle imploded. Should I open the cap and relieve the pressure?

I wouldn't let air in if that is what you mean. Did you naturally carb or force carb? How much headspace in the bottle? Sounds to me like as the co2 in the headspace shrank and naturally the bottle followed. If you had too much headspace you would expect that.

I'm with you. I bought mine a week ago, tried a half a glass, and ended up throwing THAT away after one sip. Jesus wept, that stuff is foul. Honest to god, it just tastes like highly carbonated, watered down lager with absolutely zero character, flavour, or mouthfeel.

I now have three of these and plan on racking over to the second to take the place of botteling. I overcame the issue of CO2 leak-by by using two different size o-rings on the neck of the catridge. I filled the keg with water and once I found the right combination of o rings I was able to pour out more than 3/4 of the water.

i figure with the carbonation of the beer and less liquid (filled it to much) I should be able to dispense my home brew.

I am not going to try and carbonate from the catridge to begin with. I'll work up to that. I would like to make an adapter to attach a small CO2 bottle to carbonate.

I'll post the sizes of the o-rings I used later. I'll also keep you posted on the small batch of kolsch I plan to run through this thing.

I think I just pulled it off with a 12 oz cartridge.

1. Put a dime into the bottom of the twisty part to compensate for the height difference between the cartridges
2. Put two #11 O-rings on top of the dime. This keeps the cartridge centered and gives you a little extra something so that you can screw it in all the way and know you are getting a tight seal vertically.
3. Put three # 5 O-rings on the neck of the cartridge. Pull the rubber seal out from the tap part, and press fit it over the O-rings
4. Get a piece of paper towel the height of the cartridge and wrap once or twice so the cartridge makes a tight fit in the twisty part
5. Screw in until the arrows touch and enjoy.

My blow-off discharged a bit of CO2, but then the pressure stabilized. I am pretty sure it worked because I heard/saw the bubbles going into the bottle after my first pour.

Just picked up one of these on a whim for $20 bucks, for serving my beer at club meetings/camping trips.

However, I am a little confused how you actually get the thing to serve homebrew. Can anyone provide me with some step-by-step IDIOT proof directions on how to get this thing working properly??

Has anyone seen these in Iowa yet? I asked at the hy-vee and they said they didnt know if or when they would get them.

yes, i have seen these in iowa; only seen them at a kum and go gas station, though. i don't think it would be hard to be able to use them again, either. just prime the beer while it's in the mini-keg and find a CO2 cartridge that fits the cartridge holder.
the question is: what size is the CO2 cartridge?

Cream chargers are N2O(Nitrous Oxide) and are completely different from CO2. They are also 8 gram cartridges standard I believe.

Shake it and it'll create a little bit of pressure, then again you could always just squeeze the bottle a bit.

Let gravity do the work for you. Disconnect the draft portion, pull it out of the bottle, hold it vertically with the weighted straw thing down and pour sanitizer in through the spout (making sure it is open of course).

In my experience the bottles are fragile in that it is really easy to put creases in the plastic. I would advise against squeezing it.

I made a 5 gal BMC clone to try in the Coors Light homedraft bottle. I used 1/2 C boiled sugar for the 5 gal batch. I filled the coors bottle and put the remainder in a corny keg. After 1 week naturally carbing the bottle was hard. Now I have beer seeping out of the tap. I think I got too much pressure in the bottle. I opened the tap to relieve the pressure. After a day or two it started to leak out the tap again. I figured I had to drink it since it was all leaking out slowly. I put in a new co2 cartridge and the beer was coming out one drop every second.
Has anyone taken the tap apart? Is there a seal that I can replace? Any ideas?

Is this a common thing, or was my experience a rare one? Just curious if I should try again with a new container or just screw it and get the TAD?

I'm having this issue as well with the fitting using the cartridges from Midwest supply. I've blown through about 3 of these now and they just leak out the top once the pin is punctured. Luckily I had one of the original Coors Light ones and saved my keg, but I'm not sure where what to do with the other two kegs.

I just ordered some on Amazon. 10 for $22 shipped. Pretty pricey but not as expensive (or distressing) as flattening a full keg!

I'll post my findings when these arrive in 3-5 bid'ness days.

The needle is just press fit into place, and mine falls out about every other time I change out a cartridge. Just be careful when you pull the spent cartridge out so that you don't lose it and it just slips right back into place.

I personally think it's a great way to bring beer to a get-to-gether without bottling. Kind of like a growler that doesn't lose carbonation.
