Hi all!

So I just bought a A19AAT Type Cooling Thermostats for Portable Applications (Northern Brewer website) and I bought a wine cooler because it was the perfect dimensions for my fermentor (Magic Chef 28-Bottle Wine Cooler). So when I plug my cooler into the A19AAT and then plug it into a GFCI outlet (yes probe is in the cooler), the cooler only comes on if the A19AAT is set at 60 degrees or below.

Not sure what could be causing it. Is it because the temperature range on the wine cooler is 50-66? Do I have a bad thermostat? Any suggestions are welcomed!! Thank you!

I have never used the A19AAT, but looking online, it seems like it is for cooling only. For these applications, you should turn the thermostat on your wine cooler down as low as it can go then plug the cooler into the A19AAT. The way your post reads, it sounds like it is working correctly if it is ~61F in your cooler.

actually most wine coolers will only run as cool as 55-60 degrees. I had to disable and bypass my wine chillers internal thermostat because it would only go as low as 55...
Think about it, just because you are using another thermostat to regulate the power to the cooler down to a certain setpoint doesnt mean the coolers internal thermostat wont still be trying to do its job and not allow it to run once it hits the setpoint its still set for...
This isnt a coolbot where you cheat the thermal probe of the AC units internal thermostat with a heater to get it to go colder.

This is why many use freezers where the setpoint is never reached my the freezers internal thermostat and therefore its not really doing anything good or bad to effect the external thermostat controller.

OP says that he can turn the wine cooler down to 50F which is plenty cold for fermenting ales. Fridges/freezers just have the advantage of being able to lager or cold-crash as well.

Yeah I missed that,
Even so though, the thermostat built into the wine chiller is likely not all that accurate depending on the probe placement and whats in it.

I can lager in my magic chef wine cooler fine now that I disabled the built in thermostat.. it gets down to 33 now..:mug: even though it would not even reliably reach the 45 degrees the built in digital thermostat was set for before I disabled it..

mine is a real compressor driven unit though.. the thermoelectric peliter units just likely wont have the ability... not sure what the OP has.

The other possibility is the compressor is just timing out here to prevent overheating and he hasnt given it enough time to reach its goal temp?

All makes sense and thank you for responding to my initial message! I tried to find a mini fridge but they were all to small so I settled for the wine cooler due to space. In the future, I want to get a chest freezer so hopefully this will be okay for now.

Thanks again!!

How'd you get it down that low ?
