Hey all,

I have an opportunity to purchase a 10 gal Brew Easy from a friend. His setup is propane fired. I have 220 in my basement and would have preferred to get electric but I can't pass on this offer. So my question then... how hard is it to convert that bottom kettle to electric? Is it as simple as cutting the holes and installing the heating element?

Also, I may have a Blichmann burner coming up for sale soon ;)

Cheers!

It had better be a smokin' deal as what you want to do is expensive. You will need to replace your Tower of Power propane controller system with the electric one and then you will have to pop holes in your kettles for the element. It is not a cheap or easy road. If you want to go electric, pass on it.

Electric can be fairly easy to accomplish. If all you need it boil control, consider using the EZBoil controller from Auber Instruments it's $75.

You can likely borrow a 3/16"step bit (get one that steps up to 1 3/8") to drill the holes in your BK. Someone in this forum is offering a hole punch for shared use.

5500w Elements are $28 at Lowes. Power cable would be $15-30 depending on how much you need.

How much amperage do you have? 5500W elements need 23amps. You could certainly get by with a 5500w for an 12 gallon boil.

And you will never go back go gas fired BK again. It is super quiet.
