I'm headed from Vermont down to visit family in Prospect, CT on Friday and will have time to stop at a brewery or two on my way down. I'm thinking of hitting Modern Apizza for lunch and maybe NEBCO. Any newer breweries along the 91 corridor I should hit?
I'm a sucker for the Northampton Brewery, but that's not CT, but is directly off 91.

Counter Weight in Hamden would fit your criteria as well.

Stopped for a pint of best bitter (pretty much the perfect beer for middle of a road trip) at Northampton, ate a shitload of pizza at Modern Apizza, then swung by Counter Weight for a Space Coyote IPA. Thanks for the recommendations! Swapped some crowlers for cans at both places, so I left quite happy.

Anyone have recommendations for restaurants with private rooms that have their own bar in the Farmington-Avon-West Hartford-ish area? Planning a Friday night event, so the private bar is always nice to avoid overwhelming the restaurant's bar.

I'm totally blanking on anything besides J Timothys (which is about as casual as I'd like to go for this).

Likely too far out of the way but Millwrights comes to mind.

Abigail's (simsbury - corner of 185 and 10) has an upstairs area that has it's own bar. It's a big space. Not sure how many people you'd have to have to have a private party there

Considered it, but it's likely a bit far and maybe more than I'd like to spend... My mom keeps suggesting it though

Knew I should have stopped in there the other day to look at the space, but their email response to me was so vague and didn't mention anything about the different rooms. Stairs might also be a deal breaker for the old folks in the group.

Elbow Room in West Hartford? Could also maybe rent out the roof?

How many people you looking for? Rooster Co. in Newington has a private room that might work.

Krebsy confirm or deny this statement pls.
Yes it's based off of their Road Jam which is a summer wheat. The SHBRL was based off of there summer Rasp wheat that when a batch was brewed that didn't turn out right instead of dumping it they put it in oak and poof SHBRL was born.

Was told this would be a closer comparison than the earlier Noir

Hey everyone! Looking for some recommendations of beer bars or restaurants with good taplists in the Hartford area.
I guess it depends which side of Hartford you're on. So here's a few random/imperfect suggestions. I think most of these update tap lists on beermenus or untappd.

J Timothys in Plainville
Max Burger or McLaddens in West Hartford
Artisanal Burger in Manchester
Rooster Co in Newington

Thanks so much for the help! I'm actually staying in Windsor but I'll be all around the Hartford area. Cheers!

I'm always impressed with McLadden's taplist

Yeah, this is likely the best of the area IMO, but also the priciest.

While usually only a decent taplist, I still like the food at Plan B Burger Bar too.

And in Hartford proper (close proximity to XL Center) There is Tavern (That's what I think it's called) and Trumbull Kitchen.

I think that J Tims keeps the best taplist and is also fairly price appropriate, though not that close to Hartford proper.

Based on my experience (I work in Hartford and live in Newington) and would say that J Timothy and McLaddens are the best overall taplists in the area, with my preference far leaning to J Tims for the experience and price. Also J Tims wings and tailgate pretzel are almost too good.

Tavern and Rooster Co usually each have a decent option or two on but not more than that. Trumbull is a cool spot for food but the taplist is short and generally not too interesting. If you want to catch a beer at Rooster (or anywhere that has been mentioned, really) please let me know!

A sleeper spot is Prospect Cafe, which usually has a pretty tight taplist (and tons of good eats nearby). Glastonbury's Birch Hill Tavern is also a very solid bar, though not in the immediate area (still as close as most of those mentioned). If you are going as far as Manchester, I would add Lucky Taco to the list of potentials.

Edit: Eli Cannons is about 20 mins from Hartford and generally has a pretty stacked list. I have found New Park Brewing to be a decent spot to eat food truck food, grab a pint and fill growlers (Hazy IPAs and berliners) any time Thursday - Sunday.
