Who enjoys eating a pinch of raw hops before adding them to boil? Just had a pinch of whole fuggles while making my house bitter.

::raises hand::

I like to take a pinch of grains that I'm brewing with ans a lil hops together. Tasty lil treat before brewing!

I like to chew on a few grain kernels. My 2yr old son likes them too. Whenever I weigh out grain he runs over and says "Have some?". It was cute until I caught him with his arm shoulder deep in a bucket of Munich. Not like he could hurt the grain really, but the clean up wasn't fun.

It has never crossed my mind, but now that I read this I don't think I will get through my next brew without a taste. Damn you....

When I was attending college in Denver we'd zip out to Golden and hit up the Coors hospitality room a couple times a month just for the free beer. But they made you take the brewery tour - you couldn't just make a bee-line to the taps. After months of the tour I finally cracked out of sheer boredom and snatched a pinch of pressed hops from a rolling bin stationed next to one of the (humongous) boil kettles, tucked it in my cheek, and let that wad fester.

I have no idea what strain that was, but the brain-scarring impression it left on me was severe enough that by the end of the day I had switched to Crown Royal and didn't have another beer for almost two years :drunk:

I wouldn't do that again for love or money...

Cheers!

Some of these threads make me want to try and some make me not want to..

It's ok, you'd be the most current in an epically long line of people who laughed before :)

Honest to gawd, I couldn't stand the aroma of beer for a good couple of years. By the time I finally got over it I could have stitched a circus tent out of all the purple felt bags with the gold draw strings I had collected.

Much better now, thanks ;)

Cheers!

I don't see what the problem is here...

LOL!

I would not do it. I've harvested hops, washed my hands, and licked my fingers after dinner and my fingers were STILL too bitter after washing. And I like hoppy beer!

I recall a thread where Lorena (Yooper) mentioned how good the popcorn was one evening - and realized that she still had some hop particles on her hands.

I took that and ground up a couple of pellets, sprinkled them on some popcorn - MISTAKE! - way too bitter. I think the tiniest pinch would have been plenty.

No but I took a taste of a hop shot once - boy did I regret that. Took forever for the bitter taste to go away.

Chew on low AA hops, or even tuck 'em between your cheek & gum like you would snuff. Low AA hops aren't as bitter. I chew on 4.2% AA Goldings, though I have to spit 'em out after a couple minutes. Hhhmmmmmm; hop flavoured snuff, without the bitterness...
Might be a viable product.

I'd buy Cascade and/or Nelson chew.:rockin:
