My first beer baby and she's a beauty. I'm making a red ale which I began on Saturday (3/6/10) and everything looked fantastic until today (3/9/10). I took the overflow tube off my carboy last night and today when I got home from work I went into the basement to check on it and lo and behold the fermentation stopper had blown off with a lot of overflow that ran over the carboy. I immediately washed and sanitized the stopper and fermentation lock and put it back on. Is my beer ruined? It looks like a snow globe with quite a bit of debris floating around. Is it normal to have debris floating around during fermentation? There is still a lot of sediment at the bottom from the wort too.
Is it ruined?:(

Oh... and that debris is probably just hops and/or leftover grains, it is normal. Did you strain your wort from the brew pot into the fermenter?

I did strain the wort as I poured it into the carboy but I did notice that it was very cloudy once in the carboy and there was a lot of settling during the first couple of hours. Thanks for the response by the way. I'm starting to feel better about the whole thing!
