ive always had good success with dry hopping (ipa/dipas) and aroma. i recently decided to cold crash and noticed the aroma significantly dropped. still some good aroma, but im guessing a portion of the oils dropped out and absorbed in the yeast cake rather than going into my keg. anyone else notice this?

Nope but I'm usually dry hopping with 3oz and only crash for a couple days.

cold crashed for 48 hours, dry hopped with 4.5 oz (5 gallon) for 10 days. not sure whats going on. besides the cold crash, ive always used this method with good success. the aroma is there, its just not "popping" like it should.

Oops. Not bottle. Caught that. Um. A colder serving temp might mask aroma. Also carbonation levels. Other than that cold crashing shouldn't drop aroma that bad. I mean 4 Oz is a lot.

Keg, 5 days. yes not fully conditioned yet, but usually the aroma is jumping out of the glass even this young

Every beer is different in my experience and from what ive learned in here..i do know that C02 brings out hop aroma and a green beer is not the final product (obviously)...that being said allow for full carbonation and conditioning and see if it increases to what you had in mind,,,update to please...i learn from this too.

Are these different hops used this batch? Has anything with your water source changed? 4.5 oz is a lot of hops and even young I would assume those aromas would be there as well regardless of cold crashing.

Where they pellets or whole leaf?
Also bag size matters, if you didnt allow for full surface absorbtion then you could of left some oils in the hops theselves....

But you seem like you know what your doing so i doubt its that....Seems odd...

Only other thing i can think of is if this were older hops near the end of a bag, or from a bag that wasent vac sealed??

actually yes. half of the hops used are slightly old (2011 harvest, been in my freezer since 2012 opened and closed several times). this is the first batch in my new house. different water source, but the water is good drinkable. not sure how i would treat it or if i would need to.

pellets. and yes they where from 2011. opened/closed same bag several times since i bought them in 2012. maybe they just lost a good amount of oil content.

Yup,
Old hops will do it and water could have an effect as well. If your sulfates are lower your hop presence will be diminished. Other factors are involved as well. Get a new water report at your new location and go from there.

Since all of our beers are "cold crashed" when we stick the bottles or keg in the fridge I would think, and hope that that would not cause problems.
Seems like you found the problem though.
